Johnny to salute at Scone
The seventh race at Scone is a 1600m Class 1 handicap with top weight Irish Bliss expected to have his supporters having demonstrated good form this prep.
This gelding delivered his first victory when racing over 1600m in a Kembla Grange maiden on his penultimate race.
Racing on a soft 5 track that day, the three-year-old came home two lengths clear of his rivals when contesting a set weights event.
Nathan Doyle's gelding proved that he can be competitive against winners when a length second in a Benchmark 66 handicap over 1700m here subsequently.
That latest effort came on a soft 6 surface and he has experience of a heavy surface, having finished third on a heavy 10 track at Wyong three starts back.
However, only five ran in that 1350m contest at Wyong and, while the youngster was hampered and the rider dropped his rein, he looks opposable in this event.
LET'S GO JOHNNY is preferred in this contest having put a couple of below par efforts at Gosford behind him when winning at Wyong last month.
The selection overcame a slow start when finishing strongly to deliver a victory in a 1200m maiden held on a heavy 9 track that day.
Let's Go Johnny demonstrated improved form when racing in blinkers for the first time that day and they were retained when he headed to Newcastle on 22nd June.
The four-year-old son of Dissident was beaten a length when finishing third over 1400m in a Class 1 handicap held on a heavy 8 track on that occasion.
Let's Go Johnny was hampered near the 200m mark at Newcastle and he is taken to double his career tally on his first attempt at 1600m.
Pride to complete Townsville hat-trick
The penultimate race on the Townsville card is a 1200m open handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.
Leslie Gordy saddles Captain Bond here, with the gelding having shown good form when runner-up in a six runner handicap event here in early April.
The four-year-old was racing first up over this distance that day and he was freshened prior to saluting at Mackay subsequently.
That Mackay success came when contesting a Benchmark 70 handicap over 1100m on a good 4 track on 6th June and he rates highly in this field.
However, NORTHERN PRIDE is the pick here, having demonstrated a liking for this venue in recent starts.
Those course starts have seen him follow up a good second over 1400m at the end of February with two victories over 1000m at this venue.
The first of those victories saw the gelding come home one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his 12 rivals in a Benchmark 70 handicap.
The selection raced on a good 4 track that day, however, he encountered similar conditions to those expected here, a soft 5 when following up on 8th June.
The form of that latest victory has been boosted by a subsequent victory for the sixth and Tom Button's gelding looks capable of completing a hat-trick.
Pop to break maiden at Seymour
The second race at Seymour is an interesting 1300m maiden.
A soft 6 track is expected with POP QUIZ taking the eye having demonstrated good form in five starts to date.
The Michelle Payne-trained filly performed well when racing from the rear of mid-division prior to finishing second over this track and trip on her penultimate start.
Pop Quiz was beaten six lengths when racing on a soft 7 track that day and performed well with her rider losing his whip.
The three-year-old followed that effort up with a fourth when stepped up to 1411m here last month.
This daughter of No Nay Never raced close to the speed last time out and, while she has a wide barrier, she looks capable of breaking her maiden under Brad Rawiller.
