The Kosciuszko history

The Kosciuszko is a new addition to the Australian horse racing calendar, and was held for the first time in 2018.

Following the huge success of The Everest, Racing New South Wales decided to create another feature sprint race and put it on the same date.

The Kosciuszko, which is aimed at showcasing country-trained horses, was born, and has grown in popularity ever since.

Twelve horses initially made up the field, but it was increased to 14 in 2019, and has remained that way ever since.

The Kosciuszko prize money

The Kosciuszko has a total prize fund of $2million with the winner of the race taking home a tidy $1million.

Second wins $400,000, with third place picking up $200,000.

Those who finish 13th and 14th in the race also take home $12.500 for their efforts.

The Kosciuszko past winners

Belfyer was the very first winner of The Kosciuszko when it was raced in 2018.

Front Page became the first horse to win the race back-to-back in 2022 and 2023 and will be gunning for a hat-trick in 2024.

Handle the Truth (2019), It's Me (2020) and Art Cadeau (2021) have been the other winners of the race.

Front Page is the hot fancy at 5.00 to go on and win The Kosciuszko for a third straight year.

Opal Ridge, who finished second in 2023 can be backed at 6.00 to go one better and topple Front Page in 2024.

Far Too Easy, who finished third in 2023 can be backed at 10.00.
