AFL: Lions ready to kick on against Crows

3 minute read

Brisbane will be out to continue their surge up the AFL ladder when they entertain Adelaide on Sunday, while Melbourne play on home soil against West Coast.

The Lions have recovered from a horror start to the season and after losing just one game in the last eight, have moved into the top eight.

If they carry on they will fancy their chances of going all the way to the grand final, just like they did in 2023, before losing to Collingwood.

But the wins need to keep coming and four points against the Crows is a must.

Meanwhile, Melbourne have slipped to 12th place on the ladder and have work to do if they are to make the top eight.

They cannot take anything for granted against West Coast however. The Eagles turned them over in convincing fashion at Optus earlier this season and will be out to complete a very rare double at the MCG.

Must-win clash for Demons

. What: Melbourne v West Coast
. Where: MCG, Melbourne
. When: 13:10 (AEST), Sunday 7th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: Melbourne 1.14, West Coast 5.75

Melbourne have slipped out of the eight after winning just one game in the last four and that victory was hardly convincing, as they edged past North Melbourne by three points.

It means there can be no room for complacency against a West Coast side that has lost the last five games and has picked up three wins all season.

However, one of West Coast's wins came at Optus Stadium in Round 10 when they won by 35 points.

Jake Waterman booted five goals in that game and the Eagles forward can be backed at 12.00 to get the first goal of the game.

Bayley Fritsch also kicked three goals and is 8.00 to boot the first goal of the game as Melbourne look to gain revenge.

West Coast have yet to win on the road this season but can be backed at 9.50 to beat the Demons in a close game, by 1-12 points.

Melbourne are in need of a big win to boost morale and are 8.00 to win by 73+ points.

Lions continuing to roar louder

. What: Brisbane v Adelaide
. Where: Gabba, Brisbane
. When: 16:10 (AEST), Sunday 7th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Brisbane 1.21, Adelaide 4.50

Brisbane have got their season well and truly back on track after winning the last four games on the bounce.

They had to dig deep to beat Melbourne by five points last week, but are bang in form, and will have their sights firmly on the top four.

Adelaide picked up a morale-boosting win when beating Greater Western Sydney by 16 points last week.

It snapped a three-game losing streak but has probably come too late to spark a late push for the top eight.

The last two games between these two sides have been very close, indeed they could not be separated in Round 9 this season as the game finished 90-90.

In the previous game at the Gabba, the Lions won by just six points.

On this occasion, Chris Fagan's men are 7.00 to win by 1-12 points. Adelaide are 8.50 to do the same.
