Code to salute at Sandown

The sixth race at Sandown is an interesting 1200m Benchmark 70 handicap restricted to females aged four-years-old-and-above.

Cliff Brown's Kiko is expected to have her supporters debuting for the trainer having demonstrated good form for her previous handler this prep.

The four-year-old returned from a let-up with a narrow margin victory over 1000m when contesting a Benchmark 70 handicap on the Hillside course here in May.

A good second over 1000m on the Lakeside track in use here follow prior to another second over the same distance back on the Hillside course.

Blake Shinn's mount has performed well over this distance in the past including when breaking her maiden at Cranbourne in December.

While barrier eight shouldn't pose too many issues preference is for fellow four-year-old WRITTEN IN CODE.

The filly has been lightly-raced since saluting over this distance in a maiden held on a good 4 track at Newcastle in April last year.

The pick has made just four starts in the interim period finishing in the first three in three of those including in Listed company at Scone the following month.

Annabel Neasham's filly suffered a narrow defeat when runner-up over 1100m in a Warwick Farm Benchmark 72 handicap on a good 4 track on her seasonal debut in October.

The selection was spelled following that effort and proved she handles the forecast soft 5 track when delivering an eye-catching third over 1200m at Mornington last month.

The daughter of I Am Invincible finished strongly having been ridden from off the pace that day and she looks capable of providing in form hoop Damian Lane with a winner.

Elsie for Warwick Farm glory

Warwick Farm are set to play host to a seven-race card with the fourth race of the day a 2130m Benchmark 72 handicap.

Chris Waller sends out ex-European galloper Monarchs Brae here and he is expected to start favourite having placed twice since resuming at Canterbury at the end of May.

Both of those efforts have come at Canterbury including when third over 1550m in a Benchmark 72 handicap last month.

The five-year-old followed that effort up with a close second when tackling a similar contest over 1900m nine days later.

The extra distance appeared to suit that day and he tackles further than 2000m for the first time since switching hemispheres.

Chad Schofield's mount ELSIE MAY is the pick here however on her first attempt at this distance.

The filly resumed with a three length eighth when contesting a 1300m Benchmark 72 handicap on a soft 6 track here in May.

The selection showed improvement when victorious in a Benchmark 72 handicap at Canterbury subsequently however.

The daughter of Time Test stayed on well on each occasion and it was a similar story when fourth over 1600m at this circuit 26th June.

Ciaron Maher's filly has a good barrier here and having won on the forecast heavy 9 going in the past she looks up to registering the fifth win of her career.

Khutos for second-up success

The fifth race on Belmont's seven-race card is a 1400m Class 1 handicap contest.

A soft 6 track is expected with KHUTOS taking the eye for the powerful Grant & Alana Williams team.

The three-year-old performed well last prep winning a maiden over 1420m at Bunbury at the end of December prior to placing third in a 1600m Class 3 handicap at Pinjarra the following month.

The selection was spelled following a sixth in a 1690m event when racing back at Bunbury on 26th January.

The gelding demonstrated good form when returning with a two length second in a 1200m Class 3 handicap held on a soft 5 track at this venue last month.

The slightly softer going here shouldn't pose an issue with promising apprentice Chanel Cooper looking to add to her 23 winners to date.
