AFL: Carlton look to bounce back against Doggies

3 minute read

Carlton will look to return to winning ways when they take on Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues remain in second spot on the ladder despite a defeat against Greater Western Sydney, but cannot afford another against the Bulldogs.

With Fremantle and Essendon breathing down their necks, Carlton need to keep winning to make sure they secure second place on the ladder.

Carlton are 4.25 to win the premiership and finishing second will give their chances a significant boost.

The Bulldogs are also desperate for the win as they have work to do to make the top eight and play finals.

They sit in 11th spot, four points behind the eight, and can be backed at 3.00 to force their way in.

It means there is a huge amount at stake for both sides, and it has all the ingredients for a classic encounter.

. What: Western Bulldogs v Carlton
. Where: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
. When: 16:35 (AEST), Saturday 13th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: Western Bulldogs 2.55, Carlton 1.52

Bulldogs hope for home comforts

After winning two games on the bounce to get themselves back in finals contention, the Bulldogs suffered a big setback against Port Adelaide.

They slipped to a 48-point defeat at the Adelaide Oval and now need to respond back on home soil at Marvel Stadium.

In their last appearance at the venue they smashed Fremantle by 67 points and will need the same kind of performance to overcome Carlton.

They did win the last meeting between the two sides in Round 9 last season, when they came out on top by 20 points.

The same again would do very nicely for Luke Beveridge's side, who are 8.00 to win by 13-24 points.

Rhylee West booted four goals in the win over Fremantle, and kicked another two in the defeat against Port Adelaide.

He is clearly in good touch and can be backed at 13.00 to kick the first goal of the game, or 1.18 to score at anytime.

Adam Treloar collected a massive 38 disposals against Port Adelaide and is 3.50 go 35+ once again on Saturday.

Blues look to bounce back

Carlton suffered a rare blip last weekend when slipping to a 12-point defeat at Greater Western Sydney.

It was their first defeat in the last six games and they will be desperate to show it was just a blip by bouncing back against the Bulldogs.

The last time they played the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium, they won by 12 points and can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 on this occasion as well.

Charlie Curnow had an off day against GWS when booting just one goal in the game, but fellow forward Harry McKay was flying.

McKay top scored with five goals during the game and will be looking to carry that form into Saturday.

He can be backed at 10.00 to kick the first goal of the game, while Curnow is available at 7.50.
