AFL: Swans must bounce back against Kangaroos

3 minute read

Sydney will be out to snap a three-game losing streak when they take on North Melbourne on Saturday.

The Swans had been cruising with 10 wins on the bounce, but shock defeats to Fremantle and St Kilda have stopped them in their tracks.

They are still the hot fancies at 3.30 to go on and win the 2024 grand final, but it is important they return to winning ways against the Kangaroos.

Third-placed Fremantle will also look to keep the pressure on the top two, but face a tricky trip to Launceston to face Hawthorn.

The Dockers are 14.00 to go on and win their first flag.

Essendon, who are level on points with Freo, but sit in fourth, take on struggling Melbourne in another big game at the MCG.

To wrap up the action on Saturday, Adelaide and St Kilda may have seen top eight hopes fade, but they will still be keen to finish the season strongly.

Hawks look to bounce back

. What: Hawthorn v Fremantle
. Where: UTAS Stadium, Launceston
. When: 13:45 (AEST), Saturday 13th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: Hawthorn 2.05, Fremantle 1.78

Hawthorn's charge for the top eight suffered a huge setback last week when their five-game winning run came to an end against Geelong.

However they have the chance to put things right at UTAS Stadium, a venue that has been a happy home for them.

They have won their last four games there and 12 out of the last 15, and can be backed at 5.50 to win this one by 1-12 points.

Fremantle are targeting four wins in a row and Josh Treacy is on fire after booting five goals against Richmond.

The forward is 11.00 to boot the first goal of the game on Saturday.

Sydney need a response

. What: Sydney v North Melbourne
. Where: SCG, Sydney
. When: 13:45 (AEST), Saturday 13th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Sydney 1.06, North Melbourne 9.50

Sydney will not be panicking just yet, but they need to bounce back against North Melbourne after losing the last two.

They cannot take anything for granted either against a Kangaroos side that is showing strong signs of improvement.

North Melbourne picked up their second win of the season against Gold Coast last week and are 17.00 to pull off a huge upset and win by 1-12 points.

It was a close encounter last season, with Sydney eventually edging it by three points.

Crows need a lift

. What: Adelaide v St Kilda
. Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
. When: 19:30 (AEST), Saturday 13th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Adelaide 1.50, St Kilda 2.60

Adelaide are desperate to avoid finishing in the bottom four this season and need a win on home soil against St Kilda.

Four points would see them jump above the Saints, but they have won just one game in the last five.

That was against GWS at the Adelaide Oval and they are priced at 6.00 to beat St Kilda by 1-12 points.

St Kilda will be on a high after shocking Sydney by two points last week and are 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Must-win for Demons

. What: Melbourne v Essendon
. Where: MCG, Melbourne
. When: 19:30 (AEST), Saturday 13th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Melbourne 2.50, Essendon 1.54

Melbourne need a win to keep alive their hopes of making the top eight, but it will be far from easy against a Bombers side that sits in fourth.

They did beat struggling West Coast last week, with Bayley Fritsch booting three goals in the game.

The gun forward can be backed at 11.00 to kick the first on Saturday.

Essendon boosted their top four hopes by beating Collingwood by 12 points last week. The Bombers are 5.00 to win by 13-24 this week.
