Grin to salute at Pakenham

The sixth race on the Pakenham card is a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap contest set to take place on the synthetic track.

Archie Alexander's Asawin is expected to have his supporters having registered placed efforts in four of his last five starts.

The son of Churchill has been beaten less than a length when third in his last two starts, including on a wet turf track at Bendigo on 27th June.

The three-year-old contested a 1300m Benchmark 64 handicap that day and he drops in grade for his synthetic track debut.

DIRTY GRIN is preferred here, with the New Zealand-bred gelding preferred on this occasion.

The gelding has shown good form so far this season placing twice on turf in October including in a 1406 Benchmark 58 handicap at Benalla.

By the British-bred stallion Zacinto, he was spelled following that effort and lost out narrowly when runner-up in a similar race to this over 1200m here first up this prep.

The 3.60 four-year-old again raced over 1200m when winning by nearly two lengths in a similar contest here at the start of this month.

The selection is expected to have no issues with the distance, having performed well over 1400m in the past.

Simon Zahra's gelding is set to jump from barrier seven here and he looks capable of recording his third career win.

Thought looks good for Dubbo glory

The sixth race at Dubbo is a Benchmark 58 handicap over 1120m set to take place on a soft 7 surface.

Paul Clisby's Midnight Dream is expected to feature prominently in the betting, having registered good efforts on his first two starts this prep.

Both of those starts came at this venue including when beaten just under one-and-a-half-lengths in a Class 3 track and trip contest.

The five-year-old failed to shine over 1200m next time, however, it's notable that he was racing at Randwick that day.

The gelding jumped at triple figure odds for that Randwick race and this looks like an easier contest.

Trainer Jeremy Gask boasts a strong hand here with his WHO EVER THOUGHT the pick in this contest.

The son of Panzer Division recorded a close third over 1000m in a Class 1 contest here back in April.

The 4.60 pick registered the second win of his career when successful by a narrow margin in a 1300m Benchmark 58 handicap at Scone last month.

The selection has been freshened since that effort and, jumping from barrier eight, looks capable of saluting under apprentice Mitch Stapleford.

Bar too strong for Mt Isa rivals

METAL BAR is an eight-time winner who boasts an impressive four victories form five starts at Mount Isa.

The six-year-old is one of eight set to line up for the third race of the day, a 1450m Benchmark 64 handicap.

The Euro 2024 gelding ended his last prep with five consecutive victories and him watching him them.

The 2.80 selection lost out by one-and-a-half-lengths when runner-up over 1400m in a Benchmark 65 handicap at Richmond a month ago.

The son of No Nay Never went one better when saluting in a small field Benchmark 65 handicap at this track two weeks later, however.

Denise Ballard's gelding has a promising apprentice up and looks capable of recording a win in this contest.
