Wolf Club to salute at Ballarat

They are set to race on the synthetic track at Ballarat, with the second race of the day a 1200m maiden contest.

Trevenson is expected to start a short-priced favourite for the Nick Ryan team, having placed on both previous starts.

The gelding debuted with a third when beaten just under six lengths on a wet track at Bendigo early last month.

The three-year-old took a step forward when stepped up to 1200m and switched to this venue when runner-up here subsequently.

The son of Hellbent was beaten just one-and-a-half-lengths that day, however, WOLF CLUB is taken to get the better of him in this contest.

The New Zealand-bred gelding registered third-placed finishes on his first two starts, including when beaten less than a length over 1200m at Yarra Valley in February.

The 5.00 pick was spelled following that effort and returned with a solid fourth when racing on a wet turf track at Moe early last month.

The four-year-old has been freshened since that effort and he is taken to score for the Anthony & Sam Freedman team who do well at this venue.

Angel to resume with victory

A soft 6 track is expected at Newcastle with the fourth race of the day a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap event.

Sara Ryan's filly Spicy Hotpot is expected to have her supporters, having registered some good efforts this prep.

Those efforts include a narrow victory in a Class 1 over 1200m on a soft track when racing first up here in early April.

While the filly could finish only sixth on her return to this venue two starts later, it's notable that she was contesting a Benchmark 72 handicap on that occasion.

The daughter of Russian Revolution has delivered good efforts in defeat at Kembla Grange in each of her last two starts and rates highly in this field.

The unexposed Hellbent filly ANGEL DOWN is preferred on this occasion, however, with the filly having shown good form at metro level in 2023.

The selection debuted with a comfortable win by nearly two-and-a-half-lengths over this distance at Scone in November.

The 3.20 three-year-old lost nothing in defeat when runner-up in a metro Benchmark 70 handicap at Caulfield on her next start.

The winner that day So Glamorous went on to place second in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes over the same track and trip two starts later.

The selection herself registered the second win of her career when victorious in an 1800m Benchmark 70 handicap back at Caulfield on 26th December.

Jockey Amy McLucas' claim is a positive here and she looks up to improving on her near 22% strike-rate (18/83) when riding for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott stable.

Kanata to score at Newcastle

The Newcastle finale is a 1200m Class 1 handicap event with MAZ KANATA taking the eye for the Jason Coyle stable.

The four-year-old broke her maiden at the first attempt when successful over 1100m at Nowra in July last year.

The selection raced on a good 4 track that day and encountered similar underfoot conditions when placing at Wyong and Bathurst in two subsequent starts in 2023.

The 5.00 filly has proven that she handles wet tracks in two starts this prep, including when beaten less than a length into fourth over this track and trip on 29th June.

The daughter of Van Pensiero raced on a soft 6 track when contesting a Benchmark 64 handicap that day.

The third home on that occasion, Unstopabull, boosted the form with a victory at Warwick Farm earlier this month.

The pick has a good barrier three from the rail in this contest and she looks capable of doubling her career tally.
