The Makybe Diva Stakes has a long and proud history and was first raced in 1948.

Back then it was known as the Craiglee Stakes and remained that way until 2007, when it was renamed the Makybe Diva Stakes.

Lungi won the very first edition of the race in 1948, while Marasco won in 2007 when it was renamed the Makybe Diva Stakes.

The Makybe Diva Stakes was originally a Principal Race before being upgraded to a Group 2 race from 1979 to 2012.

It became a Group 1 in 2013 and has remained so ever since.

Mr Brightside was the winner of the 2023 edition of the Makybe Diva Stakes, when beating Alligator Blood.

The Makybe Diva Stakes has been won by some elite middle-distance horses down the years, including Fawkner and Humidor.
