Lady looks good at Warrnambool

The fifth race of the day at Warrnambool is a 1700m Benchmark 58 handicap contest.

Dustland Fairytale is expected to have her supporters having registered some good efforts in defeat of late.

Those efforts include third place finishes in two of her last three starts, including over 1741m at Geelong earlier this month.

The five-year-old was beaten three lengths when contesting a Restricted 64 handicap at Geelong and has performed well on heavy going in the past.

Local trainer Lindsey Smith has been in the winners of late with nine victories from his 31 runners in the last 30 days.

However, his representative here looks opposable, with BAVARIAN LADY the selection for the Dan O'Sullivan stable.

The five-year-old failed to shine in her first two starts this prep, including when last of eight over 1400m at Ballarat when contesting a Restricted 64 handicap last month.

However, the daughter of Ajaya showed a marked improvement in form third up when narrowly beaten into second over 1600m at the same venue at the end of last month.

The 7.00 selection jumped at triple figure odds for a Benchmark 64 handicap that day and she placed third of six on the synthetic track at the same venue subsequently.

The return to turf is in the pick's favour here and Jaylah Kennedy's mount looks capable of recording the fifth win of her career.

Simplicity set for Taree victory

The sixth race at Taree is a 1250m Class 3 handicap event set to take place on a heavy 8 surface.

Shihab is expected to jump as favourite, having placed twice from three starts since winning over 1400m in a Class 2 handicap here in May.

The four-year-old won by half-a-length when racing on a heavy 9 track that day and followed up with a metro second at Rosehill on his next start.

The gelding arrives here on the back of a length second over 1410m when contesting a Class 3 handicap at Grafton.

While he has performed well over shorter in the past, he looks opposable from barrier 11, with SIMPLICITY preferred on her first outing for trainer Neil Godbolt.

The 6.00 filly broke her maiden when winning by half-a-length in a 1200m contest held on a good 4 track at Ballarat in March.

A couple of solid efforts in defeat followed, including when one-and-a-half-lengths fifth in a 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap held on the Heath track at Caulfield in April.

The three-year-old has been spelled since finishing third over 1300m in a Sandown Benchmark 64 handicap the following month.

The pick is often ridden from off the pace while she has placed on heavy going in the past.

Lane to continue winning run

The penultimate contest on the Rockhampton card is a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap event.

A good 4 track is expected for the race, with BARRY'S LANE arriving here in great form having won each of his last three starts.

Those starts included a length success in a 1300m Restricted 58 handicap held on a soft 5 track at this venue earlier this month.

The extra distance here is no issue, with the 3.20 pick having won over this track and trip in a Benchmark 60 handicap on his penultimate start.

The seven-year-old was a winner on the forecast good 4 track at Thangool when racing over 1075m three starts back.

Justin P Stanley on board for two of his last three starts is set to ride here with his mount looking capable of recording his fourth consecutive victory.
