Shot to salute in Townsville Guineas

The Townsville Guineas, a 1609m contest worth a total of $75,000, is the feature race of the day at Townsville.

Seventeen runners have been declared for the race, with Georgina Bourke's Sweet Kisses expected to have her supporters. The three-year-old has won five times so far this year, including three times at this venue.

The first of those course wins saw her come home just under half-a-length clear of her rivals in a 1000m handicap held on a soft 5 surface in early April.

The filly has since proven she stays further, including when winning twice over 1400m, most recently by a narrow margin in a handicap three weeks ago.

Jackson Murphy's mount tackles this trip for the first time here and she is one of a number of the field who are stepping up in distance.

Nick Walsh's FINE SHOT is preferred in this contest, with the gelding having been racing at Rockhampton in the main this prep.

The 4.80 pick placed third of four in a small field 1300m handicap held on a soft 5 track three starts back.

The youngster followed that up by filling the same position when beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths in a five-runner event held in similar conditions on 15th June.

The step up to 1500m appeared no issue when the son of Spieth came home fourth in a 14-runner 1500m handicap just over two weeks ago.

A wide alley here isn't ideal, however it's of note that Justin Huxtable's mount raced from off the pace last time out and he is taken to deliver a victory stepping up in distance.

Adjanni set for Sale success

They are set to race on a heavy 9 track at Sale, with the fourth race of the day an interesting 1529m maiden contest.

The Ken & Kasey Keys-trained Fast Freeze is expected to have her supporters, having impressed on each of her last three starts.

Those efforts include a runner-up finish in a 1400m maiden when racing on the synthetic track at Pakenham last month.

The three-year-old went on to place second in a 1600m maiden held on a soft 6 surface at Seymour at the start of this month.

The youngster was beaten eight lengths on that occasion, however, and she drops back in distance for this event.

ADJANNI takes the eye here, having placed in two of her three previous starts.

The pick debuted with a narrow defeat when runner-up over 1600m when encountering a good 4 track at Bendigo in February.

While the 2.50 three-year-old failed to shine at Sandown subsequently it's of note that she was racing at metro level that day.

A drop to country level racing saw her placed third when beaten just under four lengths over 1415m at this venue earlier this month.

The soft 7 track appeared to suit that day and while she has a wide barrier to overcome, she is taken to break her maiden at the fourth attempt.

Warrior goes for Hobart glory

TUCK WARRIOR is a 12-time winner from 26 career starts and he looks capable of adding to that wins tally with a victory in the penultimate race at Hobart.

The race in question is a 1400m handicap, with Glenn Stevenson's representative having demonstrated good form in two starts this prep.

The first of those saw the pick register a length third in a 1009m handicap on Devonport's synthetic track last month.

The step up in distance was in the five-year-old's favour when he came home in front when contesting a 13-runner 1200m handicap at this track subsequently.

The 3.60 selection aced on a soft 5 track that day and he is set to tackle similar underfoot conditions in this event.

The extra 200m he tackles in this contest is no issue having placed third in Listed company over the trip in February and he can provide jockey Craig Newitt with a winner.
