Streak for Hawkesbury success

The fifth race on the Hawkesbury card is a 1300m Class 1 handicap set to take place on a good 4 track.

Kervette is expected to prove popular with punters, having finished in the first three in seven of her nine starts this year.

Those efforts include a good second when beaten two lengths in a 1200m maiden held on a soft 5 surface at Wyong last month.

The filly was making her second start back, having been freshened prior to failing to shine when slowly away in finishing seventh at Newcastle at the end of June.

Trained by Kristen Buchanan, the four-year-old broke through for her first win when racing over 1350m on a soft 55 surface at Wyong earlier this month.

The daughter of Kermadec won by two-and-a-half-lengths on that occasion and she rates highly stepping out of maiden company.

However, TENDER STREAK is preferred on this occasion for the Nathan Doyle stable.

The four-year-old recorded her first victory when winning by three-and-a-half-lengths in a 1200m maiden on a good 4 track at Gosford in August last year.

Tender Streak has made just three starts since then, including when one-and-a-half-lengths fourth in a similar race to this over 1200m at Gosford in March.

The filly suffered from heat stress when a below par sixth over 1350m at Wyong subsequently and she was spelled following that effort.

Tender Streak has had two barrier trials this prep, including when saluting in impressive fashion over 1000m at Scone last month.

Braith Nock takes a valuable three-kilograms off the filly's' back and his mount is taken to resume with a victory.

Gangster for Gatton glory

The penultimate race on Gatton's seven-race card is an 1100m Benchmark 65 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

Adam Campton saddles Catwalk Criminal with the mare expected to jump as favourite for her first start in over a year.

The five-year-old demonstrated good form in her first two starts in 2023, including when runner-up in a 1000m Class 1 handicap at Sunshine Coast in May of that year.

A metro victory when racing in an 1110m Class 1 handicap at Doomben followed, with both of those efforts coming on good 4 surfaces.

The mare has been absent since disappointing at Sunshine Coast subsequently however but has shown up well in her three barrier trials ahead of this contest.

However she looks opposable in this event with MISHANI GANGSTER, who will jump from next to the rail, preferred.

The gelding lost out by less than half-a-length when contesting a 1000m Benchmark 62 handicap at Sunshine Coast at the end of May.

Mishanu Gangster placed third when racing on a heavy 8 track in that contest and recorded a respectable fifth when racing wide and having been slowly away for a 1200m race at Doomben subsequently.

In-form apprentice Chloe Lowe takes the ride for the first time here and wearing winkers for the first time her mount is selected to record her first win since saluting at Gold Coast in November 2022.

Immortal to break maiden

The opener at Ballarat is an interesting 1000m maiden contest with Akku expected to start as favourite.

However, IMMORTAL LASS is preferred on this occasion, with the filly having shown ability in a barrier trial over 1000m on the synthetic track at Pakenham last month.

The selection was beaten just over three lengths that day and was given a positive ride when making her official debut over this course and distance two weeks ago.

This daughter of I Am Immortal wore blinkers when racing from the front, prior to fading late on when beaten just under two-and-a-half-lengths on that occasion.

Trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman, the pick is set to jump from next to the rail here and with Beau Mertens retaining the ride she is taken to break her maiden at the second attempt.
