Last year's Perth Cup winner Guyno has been heavily backed to win the AJC Metropolitan at Randwick on October 3.

Sportingbet Australia reported the support followed an eye catching run in Melbourne by Guyno last Saturday.

The Lou Luciani trained galloper has been backed from $51 to $41 at Sportingbet after one client backed him to win over $50,000.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Guyno looked a genuine contender in the Metropolitan if connections brought him to Sydney.

“We took a bet of $50,000 to $1000 each way and there has been a number of other smaller bets placed on him too,” Sullivan said.

“His run in Melbourne on Saturday was excellent making good ground which was certainly against the pattern of racing for the day.

“Guyno's mile and a half form is proven too after a win in the Perth Cup over quality horses such as Ballack and The Fuzz so a race like the Metropolitan is not out of his range.”
