The Money Trail – Swan Hill, Friday June 10

3 minute read

Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Friday’s meeting at Swan Hill.

Track: Soft 6

Rail: True

First race: 1.00pm

Gimlet (Race 4) is a promising filly and the punters are looking for her to return to the winner’s stall, backing her into odds on at $1.85. She was beaten less than a length at Caulfield last start after winning a Vobis race at Warrnambool. Darren Weir and Dean Yendall make a formidable combination, striking at 23 per cent together.

Septamore (Race 5) break through for a maiden win before a spell and punters are suggesting he can go to a whole new level this campaign, backing him into favouritism at $3. He has the highest career peak rating in the field and is another from the Weir camp.

Mirage (Race 6) opened at each way odds but has been the one punters want in early betting, taking over as a clear favourite at $2.80. Stakes-placed two runs back, he was beaten less than a length in listed company at Flemington last start and is proven in soft going.

Thermal Current gave leading trainer Darren Weir his 300th winner for the season for the first time, doing so in good style here. He settled back in seventh place, behind a good tempo, before improving well along the rails coming to the home turn. He stuck to the inner on straightening, hit the front at the 200m and then proved too good, drawing clear to win well.
