Taking his record to eight wins and earnings north of $600,000, Master Of Arts held on gamely with a tough effort here. Jockey Damian Lane positioned him midfield, one off the fence, down the back and past the 1200m. Lane made his move at the 700m, edged closer to the pace and was camped in behind the leading three turning in. At the 350m he pulled wider and ran up to take over and led by a length at the 100m, the break enough to hold on by a long neck at the post. In a good staying run, Alward was last at the 700m and still second last at the top of the straight then kept up a strong run (widest) to be just a long neck away at the line. Peribsen was one of the leading three turning in, co led at the 200m and fought hard for his third. Singing also co led at the 300m and had every chance, fading and barely holding on for fourth from the fast finishing Patrick Erin.
