Last year's Sandown Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Villermont did well in winning here at his first Queensland start. He began well, was wide early on before crossing to the lead at the 1000m. He then settled well for Damian Browne and set a moderate early tempo before picking up the pace and dashing clear on turning for home. He was tiring in the closing stages but still had enough in hand to score, albeit by the barest of margins. The Kerry Parker-trained gelding Dark Dream was smartly away from his inside barrier (1) and eased to settle in second place. He was beaten for pace at the home turn and then kept making late ground, cutting into the winner's margin to fail by only a nose at the post for a really good second. The lightly-raced Chris Waller-trained three-year-old Omineca settled back near the tail of the 14-horse field from his outside barrier. He saved ground along the inner at the home turn and kept fighting on nicely on the rails to take third in a photo, just over five lengths further back, in a promising effort at his third race start.
