Voodoo Lad, twice runner-up at Group One level, recorded a good win here, his fourth in Group Three class. He settled nicely for Damien Oliver, tracking not far from the leaders, albeit in last place in the small seven-horse field. He switched closer to the rails side and improved from the 400m, challenged at the 200m and finished too well to score quite impressively. Well performed UK-import Home Of The Brave, resuming for new trainer James Cummings, went to the front and set a solid tempo from the mid-stages. He held a clear advantage at the 400m and then fought back really well when challenged for (0.8 lengths) second in a bold effort at his first Australian start. Brave Song raced in second last place, sprinted smartly from the 300m, got to third at the 200m and battled gamely for a promising third at his first run this season. Group One-winning mare I Am A Star raced in fourth place most of the way and held on nicely for a good (4.6 lengths) fourth in a sound return. Chamois Road was third to the 200m and battled on quite well for (4.7 lengths) fifth while Lindsay Park-trained import Poetic Dream raced outside the leader and eventual winner but was under pressure from the 400m before finishing (6.5 lengths) sixth at his first start since March.
