Eckstein had the last say in a crowded finish for her seventh career win (fourth stakes) and took her earnings beyond $1 million with a nice win here. She began well but soon dropped away to settle second last, one off the fence, remaining there past the 500m and to near the last corner. Rounding into the straight she travelled smoothly to be handy - yet widest - a couple of lengths off the pace, kept winding up and was almost alongside the leader at the 200m and finally caught the leader at the 50m. Doing better, she edged into the lead and was able to hold on for the win by a neck. Dothraki led from the jump, shot clear by a length turning in and held that advantage to the 50m, never giving up for a close second. The favourite, Brutal, was always handy but three wide turning in, waited to challenge and was doing his best near the finish but could not catch the first two, close up for third. Kaepernick moved up to fifth turning in, challenged at the 200m but was out-finished yet not far away in fourth.
