ROSEHILL August 17

Soft 6; Rail True

Best Bets

RACE 1 (5) DAWN SERVICE: Bred to be good (Justify x Sunlight) and showed he has the potential to recoup plenty of his $1.4 million yearling price by posting a classy maiden win over 1300m at Hawkesbury at second time of asking. He cleared out on a soft track to win by four lengths in fast time for the class and with ample scope to improve off those figures he will be hard to run down with the expert judge of pace Tim Clark sure to rate him well in front.

RACE 6 (4) TARPAULIN: Improving with every start with his excellent winter form giving him a vital edge in race fitness over some classy rivals starting off their spring campaigns. Has earned his crack at black type with Impressive back to back victories and rates to win again with a 3kg drop in weight off his latest score over this distance in heavy ground at Randwick. A perfect draw should see him stalking a fast pace.

RACE 10: (16) NOBLE CONQUEROR - Going well and gets conditions to suit as he gets valuable weight relief from his last start when he closed late for third at Canterbury under 59kg. This track is a better fit for him.

Why They Can Win…

RACE 2: (7) VINTAGE CHOICE - No luck last time. Will appreciate jockey change over this extra trip.

RACE 3: (3) LISZTOMANIA - Consistent Highway performer.  Ready for this third up.

RACE 4: (10) PIASTRI - Rates well off his Melbourne form. Choice of this race over his Caulfield entry is a strong lead.

RACE 5: (9) NANSHE - Plenty of reasons to like this honest mare. Blinkers on, pet distance and J Mac's preferred ride.

RACE 7: (6) TERRA MATER - Excellent trials have this talented mare ready to resume. Flies for Rawiller and drawn to get favours.

RACE 8: (14) LAVISH EMPIRE - Plenty of merit in his efforts since resuming and he's still on the up. Capable of an upset.

RACE 9: (9) ENOTIS – Strong winner second up. Open to more improvement.

TRIAL POINTERS

ROSEHILL August 6: In the first black type heat over 1000m on the course proper the strong work of PERICLES to finish second took the eye. In the second heat his stablemate TOM KITTEN settled fourth but was eager to run with his strong late work confirming the excellent impression he made in his first-up trial. Set for a big spring on what we've seen in his two trials. The inside grass heats were full of rising talent with a couple of standout winners. You can't ignore times with impressive unraced filly AUTUMN GLOW clocking easily the fastest 900m heat win (53.96; 34.47), some 1.29 second quicker than the next best winner over the distance. She's now won two of her three trials with the manner of her work to surge past the leader EMBASSY under a quiet ride from off the pace stamping her as a filly with a bright future. GATSBY'S was responsible for a super fresh trial to win a deep open 3YO heat over 900m (55.60; 34.43), sitting off the leader BRAVE ONE before a sharp burst over the last 50 metres saw him charge through the line for a quality win. Could be top class as he ran favourite in the G2 Pago Pago at his second start off a midweek maiden win that underlined the opinion held of his ability.

HAWKESBURY August 5: The first provincial session of the new season featured some impressive trials from maidens and unraced 3YOs. Loved the recent quiet trial by former Kiwi mare EMELIA JANE at Warwick Farm and she was more positive in this 1000m heat (61.65; 34.72), running to the line strongly from off the pace with plenty to offer for second behind another previously noted performer SPACEBALLS.  Placed in her debut in NZ in January, she has now had four trial for the Pride stable since April and is ready to make her mark. GETAFIX cruised through his 1000m heat (60.43; 34.39), covering ground all the way but never extended to finish second under a big hold. It was a clear indicator that he has gone ahead in the right manner since his recent first-up fourth at Rosehill.

WARWICK FARM July 26: In the short course open trials on the inside grass the racy filly STARMAE looked sharp winning her 821m heat (49.45; 34.50) and looks set up for a midweek restricted sprint over a short course. In the 2YO heats – soon to be 3YOs - the better performers included DRIFTING and LILAC.

ROSEHILL July 23: In the fastest black type heat over 900m (55.03; 34.45) AMOR VICTORIOUS trialled nicely to finish second. The inside grass trials saw FIRE STAR win the fastest 900m heat (54.15; 34.21).

WARWICK FARM July 15: Rare to see a batch of Godolphin's G1 stars up and going in mid-winter trials, indicating they will be making early starts to their spring campaigns. TOM KITTEN and PERICLES had easy trials but their class was evident in the manner of their work and the way they finished off through the line, especially TOM KITTEN. This big spring contender was hard to miss in his 795m heat (47.81; 34.12). He was last early but loved his strong work over the last 200m, trucking through the line to finish a closing fourth in a classy start to his spring prep.

ROSEHILL March 18: 2YO heat winner AUTUMN GLOW (900m – 54.88; 35.16) did enough to warrant attention.
