ROSEHILL August 20

Inside Grass; Soft 5

14 Heats – 5 x 1030m (2 Open; 3 Maiden); 9 x 900m (5 Open; 4 Maiden)

Expect this session to be the source of some good winners at all levels.

AFT CABIN (James Cummings): He's in rude form for his return to racing. Followed up his trial win at thise course on August 6 with another classy display to share the lead on the inside in his 900m heat before slipping away easily from the 300m. Coasted to the line and while the time wasn't flash (55.73; 34.65) it was the manner of his work with plenty in reserve that made an impression.

AIRMAN (Hawkes Racing): Eager to see what heights this talent can rise to this season. Having his first trial since April he was trucking in third place in his 900m trial and was never asked for an effort over the last 200m to easily hold his ground behind the smart winner RENOSU (54.66; 34.19). Like the form and his obvious scope for improvement.

BRIASA (Hawkes Racing): This 4YO grey by Smart Missile won his first three starts last season, following up two provincial wins with a midweek success in March and April. He'll rise further after making a classy return in his 900m heat (54.74; 34.46), sitting one and one back in fourth before cruising past the Group performer SPACEWALK with a lovely relaxed action over the last 100m for a soft win.

RED CARD/KALLOS (James Cummings): Bracketing the Godolphin stablemates after the pair worked in excellent style in the fastest 900m heat won by the tearaway leader KEYSBOROUGH (54.23; 34.76). The winner cleared out to lead by eight lengths on the turn before RED CARD and KALLOS cut the margin back to just over a length at the finish with impressive work side by side over the last 200m. It was a firm statement that both are ready for good spring preps.

THE ACT (Brad Widdup): A bit of a boom is growing around this unraced Zoustar colt with two wins and two placings in his four trials since April. Too classy for his rivals in this slow 900m heat (55.04; 34.81) but it was a stylish effort as he crossed easily from a wide gate to lead after 200m and easily maintained a three lengths advantage over his rivals from the turn under no pressure.

Other quality runners to lay down nice markers for the spring with their strong trials included MAKARENA, REMARQUE; RENOSU, QUEEN OF DRAGONS and SIVKA BUBKA.

NOTED TRIALS

X Amelita; Deconstruction; Cashburn; First Mission; Fleeting Spirit; Hammett; Indigo Star; Makarena; Nostalgia; Queen Of Dragons; Remarque; Renosu; Sivka Bubka; Smart Engineer; Snack Bar; Superata; Take A Chance On Me; Zoysia

RANDWICK August 19

18 Heats; Kensington/Randwick A Grass

Kensington (Heavy 8): 1 x 1250m (Group/Listed); 3 x 850m (Group/Listed)

A Grass (Heavy 8): 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 7 x 1050m (3 Open; 4 Maiden); 5 x 740m (2 Open; 3 Maiden)

Heavy conditions welcomed the return of G1 stars GIGA KICK, CELESTIAL LEGEND and LADY OF CAMELOT in the four black type heats on the Kensington track

HEAT 1 (1250m): SO UNITED led but stablemate MILITARY MISSION responded to riding to get the upper hand for a solid win by 1.6 lengths (78.26; 36.21). Nice work late from the Galileo import LAND LEGEND in his second trial since he won the St Leger on his Australian debut last October. Definitely a horse to follow into the spring.

HEAT 2 (850m): BELCLARE, a well seasoned 7YO mare with a multiple G1 and G2 wins in NZ, is now with Bjorn Baker. Did all that was required to win this heat (51.38; 33.74) in her first trial since March and expect Baker will have her ready to perform fresh. MORAVIA worked to the line from last for a strong second.

HEAT 3 (850m): The highlight of the session saw GIGA KICK make his return after his enforced lay off and his effort to finish second behind the Golden Slipper winner LADY OF CAMELOT was a fine start to his prep for The Everest. LADY OF CAMELOT led and was ridden along to hold her advantage to the line in the fastest of the three 850m heats (50.43; 33.48) while GIGA KICK worked smoothly under no pressure to hold second.  Doncaster winner CELESTIAL LEGEND looked uncomfortable in the heavy going finishing fourth and is sure to benefit from this first-up trial. A nice effort from the untapped LINEBACKER to finish third.

HEAT 4 (850m): STORM BOY jumped into the lead and ran them along to record a clear cut win over CABALLUS (51.00; 34.16). The trial that took the eye was the closing third of CAFÉ MILLENIUM as he ran through the line with plenty to offer. FAWKNER PARK had an easy time settling at the rear and never asked for a serious effort.

A pair of promising 3YOs from the Waterhouse/Bott stable stood out with impressive wins in their 1050m heats on the A Grass.

EXCELINDEED (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): Looks a formality for this Exceed And Excel colt to pick up a maiden win after backing up his recent Warwick Farm trial win with another sharp performance to run away with his 1050m heat by almost five lengths in good time for the session (63.52; 34.65), showing a good change of gears to extend over the last 200m. Placed in his first two starts last season and has made the necessary improvement.

MAYFAIR (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): The last start Rosehill winner is set to rise in grade after a classy win in the fastest 1050m heat (62.77; 33.85); travelling strongly under a big hold from Tim Clark and running easily to the line to score by more than three lengths.

Other heat winners on the A grass to make an impression included RATTLE AND HUM, WATCH MY GIRL, ANODE; SPIRIT OF WEALTH, FIRM AGREEMENT and COLOPHON.
