WARWICK FARM June 26

Best Bets

RACE 3 (13) GRAM: He's been given plenty of time to develop since his first start. Has made a big impression in his recent trials and it's obvious he has the talent to match his big frame.

RACE 6 (6) NEED SOME LUCK: Half-brother to Chautauqua found his form second up with a strong benchmark win at Canterbury. Meets a boom maiden winner but placing faith in his form at this track (3-1-2-0) that includes a second to Caulfield Guineas winner Griff.

For Value

RACE 2: (12) MAJWOOD: Recent trial wins have confirmed that he is much better than he displayed in his first race start early in the season.

RACE 4: (16) DRIFT NET: Rates well on his Victorian form on soft/heavy tracks.

RACE 7: (12) DIAMOND DIESEL - Went to a new peak last start. Can go on with it with 6.5kg less.

RACE 8: (10) ACAPELLA SUN: Runs to his best when there is cut in the ground. Over the odds in this company.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM June 17: TARPAULIN showed potential in his only start early in the season and we picked up the resuming trial by this Harry Angel youngster at this course on May 21 for the blackbook. This effort to finish second his 786m heat (47.55; 34.66) confirmed that he is in the right form to make an impression in the late season 2YO races. Tracked wide and was very deep on the turn but was always travelling strongly and never came off the bit running home under a hard grip from James McDonald.

RANDWICK June 14: The fastest 1050m heat (63.59; 34.60) was a competitive affair and featured some nice efforts, not the least being the closer DEVIL'S THROAT. There were a host a promising efforts in the 740m heats from horses having quiet trials. Strong work through the line from INVADER ZIM made him a horse to keep a close watch on when he goes to the races.

ROSEHILL June 11: For the second time imposing Exceed And Excel youngster GRAM made an impression, backing up his strong Gosford trial placing with a classy win in his 900m heat (56.10; 36.01). Settled five lengths off the lead before easing wide off the turn. He was under no pressure to pick up the leaders and was very strong through the line under a hold. Looks a big improver on his only start when placed in a good 2YO field at Newcastle in the spring. You won't see many more of More Than Ready's progeny but unraced 3YO filly PATIENCE IS VIRTUE will do the late sire justice judging by the talent she displayed in her debut trial over 900m. Showed natural pace to lead easily and had no trouble extending her margin to more than three lengths at the finish with plenty in reserve. Her effort was backed up by the clock, recording the fastest time in the 11 heats over 900m (55.21; 35.57). The time was slow (57.37; 36.16) but the signs are positive. The 2YO heats created the most interest with other heat winners MAJWOOD (56.25; 35.74) and CARAVANSERAI (57.31; 36.39) doing enough to deserve attention. PINK SHALALA was a narrow winner of a strong 3YO heat (55.46; 35.29) beating previously noted pair Captain Eagle and DIPSY DOODLE in a three way finish. The reliable open company performer TAMERLANE dictated his 1030m heat (63.12; 35.52) from the front.

WARWICK FARM June 7 (Poly): Unraced Harry Angel colt KING OF DRAGONS showed good improvement in his second trial to win the 2YO heat over 740m with style. Sat four deep but was always travelling smoothly and had no trouble opening up a clear advantage turning for home. Went through the line under a good hold to win the trial by almost two lengths in good time for the session (43.18; 32.73). The import REDSTONE WELL never came off the bit to win the quickest of the two 1175m heats (72.29; 34.67) in his first trial since March. ORYX is worth noting after winning the quickest of the five 740m heats in good style (42.83; 32.92).

GOSFORD May 27: Talented Lonhro filly DIPSY DOODLE made quite an impression in her first trial since February. Sat outside the leader under a big hold and never came off the bit to take the upper hand over the last 100m and win with lengths in reserve in fast time (47.82; 33.58). Imposing Exceed And Excel colt GRAM is one to follow in the late 2YO races. He was placed on debut at Newcastle in November and this trial confirmed that he is going to get better with racing. Settled midfield before putting in impressive work from the 200m for a strong second in the fastest of all the 800m heats (47.40; 33.88).

WARWICK FARM May 21: One of the fastest short course heats of the morning was won by IL PASSERO (812m – 48.17; 33.65). Likely types from the 2YO heats included BODE AKUNA and TARPAULIN.

WARWICK FARM May 7:  Among the 740m heat winners to make an impression was the 2YO IL PASSERO (43.81; 33.18). The fastest 900m heat (54.45; 34.93) featured nice work from the experienced winner GITALONG.
