WARWICK FARM SATURDAY
RACE 5: (9) KOMODO – This promising Lonhro gelding steamed home from last to score a strong maiden win over 1300m first-up from a spell at the Scone carnival on May 19, winning against the pattern that favoured on pace runners. It was a performance that points to him being hard to hold out over this extra distance going on his form up to 1600m when last in work, being well placed to make further improvement on the limit of 54kg on his home track. Weights and measures students will be keen on his chances as they will note his close third to Sacred Pins over 1200m at this course on a heavy track in October when he gave the topweight half a kilogram. This time he is in receipt of 5kg and meets Sacred Pins on 5.5kg better terms over this more suitable trip.
RACE 7: (11) EUCUMBENE: Astute trainer Guy Walter rarely pushes his promising young horses and the career to date of this Encosta De Lago 4YO is typical of the pattern of picking the right races to bring him through the grades. He lines up here chasing his third successive win after two midweek victories, scoring in great style last start over 1400m at Randwick when he took control of the race a long way from home and scored easily by 3.3 lengths. He has a tendency to go keenly in his races but Kathy O'Hara has built a fine record on the gelding and there should be sufficient pace to suit his style on his home track.
RACE 8: (13) TAKE THE OATH – A lengthy stewards report says plenty about his last start failure at Canterbury on May 16 that can be put down to a combination of the tight track, muddling pace and big weight of 59.5kg. Should be judged on his previous start when an excellent winner over 1300m on the Kensington track at Randwick when second up from a long spell. He also boasts a win over this course and distance and should appreciate returning to his home track with a significant 5kg drop in weight from his last start.
