Black Caviar, Winx relations to clash

3 minute read

Colts out of unraced half-sisters to two of the greats down to run on Wednesday

Black Caviar.
Black Caviar.

Black Caviar and Winx never raced against each other, but a couple of their close relations will do battle in the first race at Wednesday's Randwick Kensington meeting.

Two of the combatants in the $100,000 Street Boss @ Darley Handicap (1150m) are out of half-sisters to the legendary mares.

Theblade is out of Black Caviar's half-sister Brigite, while Enriched is out of Winx's half-sister Miss Atom Bomb.

Enriched is the fifth named-foal and fourth to race from unraced Encosta De Lago mare Miss Atom Bomb, the first foal from Vegas Showgirl.

A son of I Am Invincible who is in the care of Michael Freedman, Enriched's only start to date came in the Pierro Plate (1100m) at Randwick on February 17, when he was beaten just under four lengths by Switzerland.

Theblade will be making his debut on Wednesday.

The Hawkes Racing-trained colt by Toronado was due to run at Warwick Farm on July 31 but was scratched at the barrier after being backed into short-priced favouritism.

The strong market support came off the back of three trials this campaign, the latest a slick three-quarters-of-a-length win over 900m at Rosehill on July 23.

Brigite, like Miss Atom Bomb, never got to the races. She is the sixth and final named-foal out of Helsinge, who produced Black Caviar in her first breeding season.

Helsinge then had Moshe who like Black Caviar was a by Bel Esprit, and then produced All Too Hard, who is by Casino Prince, the same sire of Brigite.

Brigite has had two others to race, two-time winner Heir Apparent (Cable Bay) and Tapin' Three, whose best result from three starts is a third placing in a Sandown maiden.

Theblade holds down the second line of betting in Wednesday's race with Enriched on the fourth line with the market headed by the James Cummings-trained, James McDonald-ridden Alpine Ski.
