Extreme Choice to stand for $275,000

High mark set for outstanding son of Not A Single Doubt.

Extreme Choice will stand for one of the highest disclosed fees in Australian history for the upcoming breeding season.

Newgate Farm finalised its stallion fees late on Thursday and announced that the son of Not A Single Doubt, who is the sire of Stay Inside, She's Extreme, Espiona, Tiger Of Malay and Extreme Warrior, would stand for $275,000.

That puts him alongside Redoute's Choice and Fastnet Rock, who stood for that amount in 2006 and 2013 respectively.

Redoute's Choice stood for an Australian record $330,000 in 2007 and 2008, the same year that Encosta de Lago commanded a $302,500 fee.

Extreme Choice will not cover anywhere near the number of mares those champion stallions covered in those seasons owing to his well-publicised fertility issues, but Newgate principal Henry Field said the limited number available would ensure he was fully subscribed.

"We worked out that at that fee, for the number of bookings available, there would be an oversupply of mares apply," Field said.

"Given that he's got only limited bookings available, he'll be well and truly covered up.

"There's been plenty of interest, he's been priced very well and there's no question that if you breed to him and you get a live foal you're sitting pretty."

Extreme Choice had the top lot at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale – a colt who sold for $825,000 – and his nine yearlings at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale sold for an average of $399,444.

Extreme Choice covered 76 mares last year, when he stood for a private fee, after producing 165 live foals from 432 covers in his first four seasons at a fee of $22,000.

Two of those foals were Stay Inside and Tiger Of Malay, who will stand alongside their father at Newgate this year for $77,000 and $16,500 respectively.

Field revealed that Stay Inside was virtually fully-subscribed with only limited spots remaining, which will be made available to elite mares purchased out of next month's Chairman's Sale and Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Extreme Choice, Stay Inside and Tiger Of Malay form part of a glamour Newgate roster, which includes Capitalist ($99,000) and Deep Field ($88,000), whose fees are unchanged from last year, while Russian Revolution's brilliant first crop results have earned an increase, from $44,000 to $71,500.
