Yulong pays more than $1.5m for daughter of Zoustar
A lot of quality mares have sold for huge prices online in Australia this year and North Star Lass on Wednesday became the most expensive of them when sold via the Inglis Digital September (Early) sale.
The daughter of Zoustar, who won a Group 2 Furious Stakes and placed in the Group 1 Flight Stakes, realised a $1,525,000 payday for her owners when Yulong added her to their burgeoning broodmare band.
The four-year-old became the fourth seven-figure mare sold via Inglis Digital this year, joining Another Award ($1,275,000) Miss Roseiano ($1.m) and Jamaea ($1,050,000) as mares to top $1 million.
A date with Yulong's headline stallion Written Tycoon now beckons for North Star Lass.
"She's a great physical and it's just great to have her joining the broodmare band," Yulong's Sam Fairgray said.
"She wasn't easy to buy, there was proper competition there, but the good ones are always very hard to get, especially if they're attractive and tough race mares like her.
"Physically she'll suit Written Tycoon really well and on paper it works well also. We also own the three-quarter sister, a two-year-old by Zousain, who is also with Gai and Adrian who are really happy with."
North Star Lass was the banner lot of a September (Early) Sale that grossed $4,867,350.
The second top lot, unraced Oasis Dream mare Tuscan Heat, is also bound for Yulong's Nagambie base after being sold in-foal to Wootton Basset for $190,000.
Entries for the Inglis Digital September (Late) Sale are open until next Wednesday, September 20 with Group 2 winner Expat, a daughter of Makfi, already a confirmed entry.
