Magic Millions' National Broodmare Sale has been described as 'outstanding' after the record-breaking three-day sale wrapped up on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

Imperatriz ensured the sale attracted worldwide attention after she broke the Australasian broodmare record of $6.6m on Tuesday, but Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said the success of the sale ran beyond her result.

The gross of $97,610,000 was down more than $10m on last year, when there were 75 more lots offered, while last year had a clearance rate of 78 percent, which was five percent inferior to this year.

This average this year was $206,801 with a $90,000 median, while those figures in 2023 were $215,255 and $100,000.

"We had an unbelievable race fillies section but the mares-in-foal were probably under last year's level," Bowditch said.

"We were never going to reach last year's level with less horses, but it has been another outstanding bloodstock sale for Australia.

"It is a lot for the breeders to give up these mares and when they hit the market there is an appetite for them.

"I was pleased with the number of people we got here, the cross-section of them, and the genuine nature of their involvement."

Imperatriz was the star of the week, but she wasn't the only prized gem with 15 seven-figure lots in total, five of which sold for at least $2m.

Lady Of Camelot's half-sister Platinum Jubilee sold for $3.5m, Madame Pommery $2.7m, Chain Of Lightning $2.5m and Ruthless Dame $2m.

Chain Of Lightning will join Imperatriz at Yulong, who spent more than $18m over the week through Zhijun Zhao and their Panthalassa Syndicate to be leading buyer.

Newgate was clearly leading vendor with its 54-lot draft grossing $19,459,000, which was more than $12m in excess of the next most prolific vendor (Yarraman Park).
