75 international entries received for Qatar’s biggest racing fixture
A total of 75 international entries, including three European Group 1 winners, have been received for Qatar’s biggest racing fixture, the HH The Amir Sword Festival which will be held in Doha in February.
The six international races have attracted 29 horses from the UK, 23 from France, 15 from Oman, three from Ireland, two from Bahrain and one each from Spain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. With a total prize money fund of US$4.34 million, the three-day festival features five international races run from February 18 to 20.
The festival’s centrepiece is the US$1,000,000 His Highness The Amir Trophy (2400m) which will be run on Saturday February 20. Group 1 winners Aspetar (Al Kazeem) and Lord Glitters (Whipper), along with St Leger Stakes (Gr 1, 1m6f) runner-up Berkshire Rocco (Sir Percy) are among the eight British entries for the feature. Fellow Group 1 winner Intellogent (Intello) features among the five entries from France alongside Royal Julius (Royal Applause), who was runner-up in the race two years ago.
