Volcanic Sky and Zainhom take the late Street Cry’s stakes tally to 83 

Volcanic Sky (6 c ex Short Skirt by Diktat) brought up stakes winner number 82 for former shuttle sire Street Cry (Machiavellian) when he won the Nad Al Sheba Trophy (Gr 3, 2800m) for jockey Frankie Dettori and trainer Saeed bin Suroor, who trained the first three home.

Dettori settled Volcanic Sky on the outside of the leader in a slowly run race. He took over approaching the home turn and put a break on the field at the top of the straight. He was tiring late and held on to score by a short-head over Global Heat (Toronado), who closed strongly along the rail with a further length and a quarter back to Brilliant Light (Sea The Stars) in third. 

Volcanic Sky is also the first stakes winner for his dam Short Skirt (Diktat), a multiple Group Three winner who was placed in both the English Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) and Yorkshire Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) and has also produced the stakes placed and stakes producer Minidress (Street Cry). Short Skirt herself is a half-sister to the Group Two winners Little Rock (Warning) and Whitewater Affair (Machiavellian) and this is the family of Irish St Leger (Gr 1,1m6f) winner Arctic Owl (Most Welcome) and Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Marooned (Mill Reef). 

Later on the card, the Hamdan Al Maktoum-ownd Zainhom (7 g ex Kaseema by Storm Cat) provided Street Cry with stakes winner number 83 when he won the Meydan Challenge (Listed, 1400m). 

The Shadwell Farm-bred gelding defeated Wasim (Acclamation) by a length and a quarter with another three quarters of a length back to Dubai Legacy (Discreet Cat) in third. 

Zainhom has now won three of his 31 career starts and placed a further 13 times including twice at Group Three level in England. His dam is the winning Storm Cat (Storm Bird) mare Kaseema who is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winning sire Aragorn (Giant’s Causeway). 

Street Cry, who shuttled to Australia for nine years between 2003 and 2013, died in 2014.
