Medaglia d’Oro colt tops on Wednesday selling for US$1.75m on day two.
After one juvenile made seven figures during the first session of the OBS Spring Sale of 2YOs in Training on Tuesday, two further lots broke the million dollar mark on Wednesday.
A son of Darley's former shuttler Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado) topped day two when he sold for US$1.75m to Red Baron's Barn. Offered by De Meric Sales, the colt is a half-brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Drefong (Gio Ponti) - who sired his first Grade 1 winner last weekend - being out of unraced Ghostzapper (Awesome Again) mare Eltimaas. The colt had breezed in a time of 10.1 seconds and was catalogued as Lot 401.
Later on in the session a son of Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy) sold for US$1.3 million to Mitsu Nakauchida. Out of the unraced Malibu Moon (A P Indy) mare Grace Is Gone, the colt had breezed in the same time as the session topping Medaglia d'Oro colt and was offered by Scanlon Training & Sales as Lot 490.
During the second session 178 two-year-olds sold for US$25,855,000, up from US$21,614,500 when 196 lots sold a year ago. The average rose 32 per cent to US$145,253, up from US$110,278, while the median climbed a massive 74 per cent up from US$45,000 last year to US$78,500. The buy back rate however was up from 11.7 per cent in 2021 to 18.7 per cent this year.
