Kentucky Derby winning son of Into Mischief crowned Horse of the Year
Last year’s Kentucky Derby (Gr 1, 9f) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr 1, 10f) winner Authentic (Into Mischief) has been crowned Horse of the Year as well as Champion Three-Year-Old Male title.
Bought for US$350,000 by SF Bloodstock / Starlight West at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, the Bob Baffert-trained son of Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday) raced seven times as a three-year-old last year and in addition to his Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic victories landed the Haskell (Gr 1, 9f) and finished second in both the Preakness Stakes (Gr 9. 9.5f) and Santa Anita Derby (Gr 1, 9f).
For Baffert Authentic is the fourth Horse of the Year that he has trained and third since 2015 including Coolmore Australia shuttlers Justify (Scat Daddy) and American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile).
Authentic will stand his first season at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky for a fee of US$75,000 this year. His sire meanwhile is standing for a fee of US$220,000 in 2021.
