Makybe Diva's sire Desert King continues to make his mark, siring three country cup winners in the last month.

Despite not serving large books over the past few years Desert King continues to prove a great source of winners in races over 2000m and longer.

A perfect example is the Darren Weir-trained Rainbow Storm, who has been in top form with back to back wins in the Murtoa and Hamilton Cups.

The five-year-old recorded a memorable four lengths win in the Hamilton Cup, taking his prize money tally to beyond $245,000 with his fifth win in 21 starts.

"He won the Murtoa Cup well and was impressive again at Hamilton so while he is racing in such good form we may now have a look at a race in Cup week and then the Ballarat Cup for him," Weir said.

At Pakenham the Nigel Blackiston-trained Desert Jeuney was back to his best in the $120,000 replacement for the Moe Cup.

That was win number five from 26 starts for the six-year-old who has amassed over $320,000 in stakes.

A horse who showed great early potential with placings in the G1 Toorak Handicap and the G2 Crystal Mile, Desert Jeuney has had his share of set-backs but looks to be back to his best thanks to the efforts of the Blackiston stable.

Jeune mare Preps, the dam of Desert Jeuney, is paying a return visit to Desert King at Lauriston Park this spring.

The sire of 27 stakes winners including the mighty mare Makybe Diva and wfa champion Desert War, Desert King boasts outstanding statistics with his progeny earning an average of over $61,000 per starter.
