More Milestones For Galileo

3 minute read

Champion sire Galileo achieved his second Pattern race clean sweep when three of his sons filled the places in the G3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock on a weekend when he also posted his 140th individual stakeswinner.

David Livingston, trained by Mike De Kock for Indian breeder Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, led home his Haydock trifecta from one-time Derby favourite Telescope with Frankel's brother Noble Mission third.

Galileo achieved his first Group-race trifecta when his first crop yielded the 2006 St Leger one-two-three Sixties Icon, The Last Drop and Red Rocks.

Stakeswinner number 140 for Galileo came at the Curragh on Sunday when his 2YO filly Tapestry, a daughter of the G1 winner Rumplestiltskin (Danehill) made it two out of two winning the G2 Debutante Stakes for Aidan O’Brien.

Tapesty stepped up from her maiden win at the Curragh to defeat her stablemate Perhaps, also by Galielo in yet another dominant result for the son of Sadler’s Wells.

Galileo’s weekend success spread to South Africa where his Australian bred six-year-old mare Rain Gal (Galileo x Raining, by Hurricane Sky) posted her first Black Type success when saluting in the G3 Final Fling Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.

Trained by Justin Snaith for five wins from 21 starts, Rain Gal was a $90,000 Magic Milions National Sale purchase from the Coolmore draft by James Bester Bloodstock and races for leading owner Hassen Adams.

She is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Arjuna from Raining, a grand-daughter of stakeswinner Jade Lace.

Rain Gal is from the last crop of Australian bred foals by Galileo was his 139th stakeswinner worldwide.

Galileo’s possible Melbourne Cup contender Ernest Hemingway landed a second consecutive G3 win last Thursday in the G3 Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown, beating last year’s G1 Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond.

He is set for the Irish St Leger and that will determine if Aidan O’Brien sets him on the path to Melbourne.

Galileo has sired 35 G1 winners, including Intello, Linton, Magician and Ruler Of The World this year.
