Champion NZ stallion O’Reilly sired his 12th Group One winner on Saturday when his 2YO filly O’Marilyn won the Manawatu Sires’ Produce at Awapuni.
O’Marilyn, a daughter of the Zabeel mare Monroe Magic, became the 73rd stakes winner by O’Reilly.
The Waikato Stud-based stallion was represented by a stakes double at Awapuni after his 5YO mare Pussy O’Reilly (O’Reilly x Octapussy by Octagonal) landed the Listed Fairdale / Goodwood Studs Handicap.
O’Marilyn, trained by Stephen McKee, kicked off her career with a victory over 800m in December and progressed to finish third in Listed Company before an unlucky third in the Karaka Million at Ellerslie and a second in the G1 Diamond Stakes at her last start.
Bred by Whakanhui Stud and sold for $130,000 through the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2013 NZB National Yearling Sale at Karaka, O’Marilyn claimed her deserved win on Saturday beating her stable mate Prince Mambo (Thewayyouare) by a long neck.
She is the second Manawatu Sires’ Produce winner for her part-owner Trevor McKee, Sunline’s former trainer who won the 1994 edition with Moonshine (Sound Reason) in partnjmership with bhis son Stephen.
O’Marilyn, who has now won two of her six starts and NZ$255,325 prize money, is the fifth winner andf fourth stakes winner bred by Whakanui Stud from the wonderful broodmare Monroe Magic.
A winner at two in New Zealand, Monroe Magic is also dam of the G1 winning brothers Anacheeva and Headturner, who are both by Anabaa, and the G2 winner Kroner (Viking Ruler).
Juvenile winner Monroe Magic is a daughter of My Marilyn, who won the Magic Millions Classic at Trentham.
Monroe Magic’s grandma is the G3 winner Tasman Dancer (New Regent), whose descendants include the NZ champion mare Butterscotch (Gold Brose) and stakes winners Eire Hostess (O’Reilly), Savour The Moment (Savabeel), Golden Archer (Rock Of Gibraltar) and Viennetta (Pins).
* DUKE Of Marmalade’s 3YO filly Lady Cumquat won the G3 Manawatu Classic at Awapuni to become the 11th stakes winner for her Coolmore shuttle sire.
Lady Cumquat (Duke of Marmalade x Imposingly, by Zabeel) is trained by Roger James and is a half half-sister to the recently retired Full Of Spirit, winner of the G2 Adrian Knox Stakes at Randwick and second in the GI Makfi Challenge Stakes at Hastings.Lady Cumquat has two wins and four placings from seven starts and may also head to Sydney for the Adrian Knox Stakes.
