Although crack sprinter Terravista doesn’t carry the NZ suffix he is a genuine Kiwi product from a mare now revered as one of New Zealand’s finest producers.
Terravista is by the Westbury Stud stallion Captain Rio from superstar broodmare Parfore (Gold Brose), crowned New Zealand’s Broodmare of the Year in 2015.
Parfore, who died at Segenhoe Stud in 2016 at the age of 18, was originally purchased by agent Paul Willetts for Mike and Christine Ryan for NZ$30,000 at the 2004 New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling and Broodmare Sale and produced nine foals to race, with each of them being a winner.Conceived in New Zealand, Terravista was foaled at raised at Torryburn Stud in NSW when Parfore visited the shuttle stallion Dubawi for a second time,
Dubawi is the sire of her outstanding 2007 foal Tiger Tees, also a G1 winner of the ATC Galaxy and multiple Group wins. Her second Dubawi mating produced the G2 winner Ball Of Muscle, coming after Parfdore’s earlier foals that include Singapore champion Super Easy (Darci Brahma) and multiple stakes winner Our Lukas (Generous).
Terravista is now the winner of $2,465,005 from 11 wins in 25 race starts.Terravista, Tiger Tees and Ball Of Muscle have all been trained in Sydney by Joe Pride.
Parfore still has an unraced two-year-old filly to come called Janicemarie by Darci Brahma, making her a sister to Super Easy and a yearling colt by Rip Van Winkle.Janicemarie is in training with Peter and Paul Snowden at Randwick.
A Fastnet Rock colt out of Frustrating (Stravinsky), a metropolitan-winning half-sister to Terravista, made NZ$750,000 at this year’s NZB Premier Yearling Sale when purchased by BBA Ireland.Parfore was out of the stakes-winning Twig Moss mare Classy Twiggy and won a Geelong maiden before she was offered at the NZB National Broodmare Sale in 2004.
