Agent James Harron has struck gold with the four colts he purchased from Arrowfield Stud yearling drafts in 2016.
After Gunnison’s resolute win in Saturday’s G2 Todman Stakes at Randwick he can take plenty of satisfaction from their race results as they also include G3 winner G1 Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up Pariah, debut city winner Dracarys and Severence, fourth in both his starts.
All four are trained by Peter and Paul Snowden for Harron and syndicate partners, as is the Todman Stakes runner-up Invader, a Snitzel colt who was also from Arrowfield’s Magic Millions draft in 2016 where he was purchased by the China Horse Club.Gunnison, a winner on debut at Canberra, is the 37th stakes winner for Not A Single Doubt and was his all-time top-priced yearling at $850,000 when purchased by Harron last Easter in Sydney.He was bred by David Paradice, who raced Gunnison’s G2-winning dam Colorado Claire (Hussonet).
Colorado Claire has a Snitzel filly in Arrowfield’s 48-lot consignment for this year’s edition of the Easter Sale.Invader, a Snitzel half-brother to the fine Hong Kong sprinter Not Listenin’tome, was bred from the Listed winner Flame of Sydney (Encosta de Lago).
Arrowfield’s class of 2016 has thrown up seven stakes performers this season - Gunnison, Pariah, Azazel, Invader, Showtime, Snitzkraft and Bowerman.The Randwick meeting also produced a pair of new stakeswinners by Snitzel – the 3YO filly Samantha and 5YO mare Elle Lou on a day when almost a third of the black type placings on the program were filled by the progeny of Redoute’s Choice and his sons Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt.
Snitzel remains on top of the Australian General, 3YO and 2YO Sires’ Premierships while the trio have collectively posted 34 stakeswinners worldwide this season.He has an overall tally of 54 stakeswinners.
Elle Lou recorded her break through win at black type level in the G3 Aspiration Quality (1600m).She is now a seven time winner and earner of over $450,000 after her purchase as a Magic Millions yearling for $70,000 in 2013.
Elle Lou has been entered for sale at the 2017 National Broodmare Sale.Samantha won the Listed Fireball Stakes for her third win from just five starts.
Bred by Corumbene Stud, Samantha is out of the placed mare Icedginger (Tale Of The Cat). She was passed in twice as a yearling, first for $65,000 at the 2015 Australian Easter Yearling Sale and then for $50,000 at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.She is from the family of Blue Diamond Stakes winner True Jewels and multiple G2 winner Wager.
• Classy Lonhro mare Heatherly will be offered for sale at the inaugural Chairman’s Sale in Sydney following her Listed Bob Hoysted Stakes win at Flemington.Heatherly (Lonhro x Dancing Heather) took her overall earnings to almost $600,000 with her third stakes win.
• Bargain buy Rocket Commander recorded the biggest win of her career in the G3 Wenona Girl Handicap at Randwick.A $3500 purchase at the 2013 Magic Milions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Rocket Commander sent her earnings spiralling toward $400,000 with her latest black type victory.
A daughter of Court Command, Rocket Commander is now trained in Canberra by Matthew Dale after commencing her career in South Australia with Wayne Francis and Glen Kent.While in South Australia she won the Listed Penny Edition Stakes at Morphettville.
• Sebring mare Turbo Miss recorded an important first black type win in the G3 Frances Tressady Stakes at Flemington.
The Darren Weir prepared mare is now the winner of five races and earned over $185,000 from 17 starts.Turbo Miss, a $120,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase, is a half sister to the G2 winner Russian Revolution.
* Red Dazzler’s rising talent Colour Charge was a strong winner of the Listed Tatt's Members' Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday.Colour Charge was able to register consecutive wins and breakthrough for his first at black type level.
A nine time winner and eight time placegetter from 36 starts, Colour Charge has earned more than $225,000.A Eureka Stud graduate at the 2012 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Colour Charge is by the G1 winning sire Red Dazzler from the G2 winner and grand producer Market Price, making him a half brother to the black type performers Pierre Joseph, Not At Allordinary and Discoverers.
