The Money Trail – Gold Coast, May 6

3 minute read

Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Saturday’s meeting at Gold Coast.

Londehero (Race 2) could be worth an each way ticket at $5.50 having firmed two and a half points in early betting. He was fourth last start in the Weetwood at Toowoomba so looks well placed back to a benchmark.

Elegant Composure (Race 6) is now second pick in the market at $5 having shortened three points. She resumes and is unbeaten from three previous first up runs and the punters are backing her to maintain that record.

It's Somewhat (Race 7) is warm favourite at $2.60 having firmed a full point on his opening price. He has won both of his runs this campaign including the Doncaster last start and a similar performance sees him hard to beat.

I Thought So (Race 8) is still offering each way value at $7 having firmed four points from his opening each way quote. He was beaten on a heavy track last start but is a progressive colt and the market push suggests he can bounce back.

Godolphin’s import It’s Somewhat is now unbeaten in all three starts this preparation, following his win in the Doncaster Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) at Randwick on 1 April with another good win here. He again went to the lead and was able to steady the mid-race tempo (first 1200m in 1:14.94) before lifting the pace when challenged at the 600m. He then kept fighting back gamely, holding on to win well. Single Gaze raced outside the leader, put pressure on him nearing the home turn and battled strongly in the straight for second. Maurus raced in second last place in the ten-horse field, moved up (deep) at the 600m, challenged at the 200m and did well in the sprint home in fighting on to take a good third. Of the others, Preferment raced behind the leader and held on well in the sprint home for (2 lengths) fourth while Sense Of Occasion was shuffled back in the straight and ran on well late for (2.9 lengths) sixth, looking somewhat unlucky.
