Oops Thereheiz

3 minute read

Canberra galloper Thereheiz can continue his good form on his home track in today's Winning Post Bar Functions Handicap (race 7).

The Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones trained gelding has a good record on the synthetic Acton track and on his open class win last time looks hard to beat in this Benchmark 75.

The lightly-raced gelding, who has record six wins and six minors from just 23 starts, had been knocking on the door before breaking through last time.

Five back he carried 59kg here in a Benchmark 64 and shared the speed before battling on well for sixth.

He then raced in a Benchmark 70 at Wagga where he got back but hit the line well for a close-up fifth.

Back to 1000m at home and to a Benchmark 65, he again got back and circled wide before running on to finish a length fourth.

He then raced here on the Acton track over 1200m and with 60kg in a Benchmark 60 worked home steadily again but couldn't match the winner Eye Of The Needle, finishing runner-up. The winner has since won in town.

But last start, to open class on the Sapphire Coast, Thereheiz took up the running in the slow ground and kicked strongly for a neck win.

Today he tackles a Benchmark 75 and carried the same light weight he did last time.

At the track he has raced three times for a win and two seconds, one of which was at this trip.

The gelding obviously goes well here, is fit and in form and with a good gate and the minimum weight he gets the chance to win again.

The Albury-trained Riverina Lad was a last start winner in this grade and looks the biggest danger.

Two starts back the gelding drew off the track over 1200m at Wagga and after getting back to near last hit the line hard to finish a two length sixth.

He returned there last time and drew the outside gate but instead of going back went forward to share the speed.

He turned second but kicked strongly and scored a three-quarter length win.

The gelding rises 1.5kg today but does draw well on the inside and should be prominent throughout.

This is his first start here but he should give a big sight.

Another local in Playa should be hitting the line hard.

The former Victorian gelding made his debut for the Rado Boljun stable here last time over 1000m in a Benchmark 65.

He settled second last on the inside before running on well for a 1.5 length second.

This is a tougher race but he drops nicely in the weight and will be fitter.

The extra trip suits and he should be getting home strongly.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Scirocco San will find this easier than his last few and is a serious chance here on his best form.
