Today's The Age Handicap (race 6) at the midweek meeting at Caulfield looks a terrific betting race with a wide open field and market.

The race, an RB72 over 1800m, has 10 runners engaged but it's $5.00 the field and seven of the 10 are cramped in under double figures.

The key runner is Mick Price's mare Slippery Satin, who is ready to win after two runs back from a spell.

The mare, a lightly raced daughter of Benicio, took a couple of runs to get going last campaign but put it together when out in journey, scoring her maiden win with ease over a mile before winning again at Betfair Park Hillside over 1800m.

She then ran a poor race there when obviously had an issue and went for a good spell.

Slippery Satin resumed over 1500m at Mornington and after drifting back to second last made good ground to finish third.

She then went to 1800m at Betfair Park Hillside again and drew an outside gate in the big field.

Settling third last, she motored home to finish runner up behind Devils Quest in a run that would have seen her added to plenty of black books.

The mare will be fitter for the two runs and races in the same grade here today with a similar weight.

She has drawn wide again and will settle off the pace but does look ready to break through and should be hard to hold out.

Slippery Satin is second favourite, just behind Peter Moody's Power O'Raylee who should prove hard to hold out as well.

Power O'Raylee, a daughter of O'Reilly, was consistent without winning last time in, placing at her last three runs including two in town, one of these when runner up behind Slippery Satin.

After a spell Power O'Raylee resumed from a wide gate over 1312m at Geelong and drifted back to near last before hitting the line hard to finish sixth.

She then stepped up to 1500m at Mornington and after settling much closer in the run cruised away with a two length win.

She will be much fitter for that run and is suited by the extra furlong here.

She also drops in weight and has drawn well so looks a top chance again.

Mr Consolidator rates well on his form from last time in but also looks close to a win after two runs back.

The gelding was runner up over a mile second up then over 1800m at Betfair Park Hillside drew wide and got back to second last before making good ground.

Slippery Satin was in the race and got home to finish second while Mr Consolidator worked home steadily into eighth.

He has since run again, finishing a three-quarter length second to Flying Hula over 2040m at Moonee Valley.

He is at his top now and looks an each way chance.

Commanding Time is racing well and return to his home track after an on speed win over 1700m at Warrnambool last time.

This is tougher but he'll give a great sight at each way odds.

The former Kiwi Chaparral Lass ran well over a mile at her Australian debut and is worth keeping safe.

Devils Quest beat Slipper Satin last time but was every chance there, meets her 2kg worse and has the big weight and wide gate to overcome this time.

Inclined to risk.
