Hot Night Ahead At The Valley

3 minute read

With wet tracks across New South Wales we've again headed south to Moonee Valley where there is a good card on offer.

Honest mare The Night's Hot lines up in the EJ Whitten Race Night Handicap (race 6) and looks well placed to record her first city win.

The mare, prepared by Darren Weir, was an impressive last start winner over a similar journey and looks hard to hold out.

The Night's Hot resumed this campaign over 1300m at Stawell and after settling last in the small field ran on well for a long neck fourth.

She then stepped up to a mile at Sandown Lakeside and after drifting well back on the inside tried hard in the straight but could manage only eighth.

Again at a mile, this time at home, she drifted back to second last and was there throughout before running on hard to finish a 2.5 length fourth.

Last start, out to a more suitable 2060m at Cranbourne, she had a big weight and a wide gate and went back to the tail, turning there, before unleashing a huge finish, running away with a three length win.

Tonight she faces tougher grade but drop nicely in the weights, down 4kg on her easy win, and races over the same journey.

The draw doesn't matter as she'll be back anyway, and unless there is a mad leaders bias on the night she will prove hard to hold out on her latest effort.

The Peter Moody trained Sidecar is an honest gelding who is ready to break through and is the clear danger.

Favourite in early markets, Sidecar has been nearing a win with his three placings from three runs this time and looks ready for the longer journey.

The four year old resumed with a fast finishing third over 1440m at Caulfield then was runner up over 1520m at Mornington, coming from midfield to miss by a head.

Last start, over 1800m at Flemington, he had a big weight and a wide gate and after settling last early made a long run working home into third behind Infuse.

Today he meets the same grade but drops in weight and has drawn well in barrier five.

He should be at his top now and looks hardest to beat.

The Jason Warren trained Richoman is an honest galloper who is worth another chance as he drops in grade.

The gelding was fourth over 1300m at Bendigo fresh then fourth here over 1500m when running on well.

It was no surprise to see him go on from that was a strong on pace win over 1520m at Mornington, holding out Sidecar by a head.

He meets him slightly better at the weights here for that win, too.

Last start, Richoman went to an RB89 over 1700m at Flemington and after drawing wide sat just off the pace and battled home for seventh behind Bolton.

This is easier and he has drawn far better in barrier one this time.

He has placed both runs at the trip and will give a big sight tonight.
