Santana to strum Silveron Wings to success

3 minute read

A possible Derby runner in Silveron Wings this year does look the winner on the minimum today of 50kg in the feature Open Class event over 1800m on the turf.

The four-year-old gelding does not mind a yielding track either should some rain appear and even better the long course in use today gives him more time to unleash that super finish he possesses.

I do like Silveron Wings to bury his opposition in the tenth race on the card, which is for $S125K and amazingly only has two runners that have won in their last five starts.

Ivaldo Santana has only won two races since coming to Singapore but the 'forgotten Brazilian' after Joao Moreira, seems to get on well with Silveron Wings.

He has ridden it for the last two starts and both times the closing strides have been impressive, with the key being one came in a torrid run race and another a sprint home.

Silveron Wings runs on no matter the tempo but when they gas each other he will swoop and swamp, which is how he should win the feature event.

I do think last start he proved 2000m in sprint home was a gettable trip hence the Derby more than likely this year and the prior start at 1600m he was second albeit distant to the tidy Cash Luck in a serious run race.

There does look two or three in the field today that could ensure the lead is not a trot and canter then quicken from the corner, so the late closers could benefit the most at the finish.

If you need any proof of just how well in Silveron Wings is weight wise then look at three rivals again here that he beat home last start in that sprint home Woodlands Classic over 2000m.

He beat New Rose Wood by over two and a half lengths and carried 2.5kg more but today will get from that mare 3kg for a tasty 5.5kg swing.

He beat Maurice Utrillo home by just over three and a half lengths and carried 1kg less than it but today will carry 2.5kg less.

He beat South Easter by over six and a half lengths and carried the same weight and today they have the same impost again.

The dam of Silveron Wings was Cruz Control and she won four times and on dry and wet ground plus scored up to 1900m.

It is hard to make a case for any of the three that Silveron Wings beat home last start but Maurice Utrillo and New Rose Wood can improve.

Maurice Utrillo on turf at this trip is a threat as remember he had a gutbuster wide last start and did very well to box on.

The start before he finished a distant third in the torrid mile behind Cash Luck and Silveron Wings, with 5kg more than the top pick.

New Rose Wood is about to show her best and while a more often winner on the poly she has placed in Group races on the turf.

The mare is G1 placed second on the turf at 1600m and 2000m plus is G3 placed at 1600m and 1800m, so include in your multiples today.

South Easter may lead but is a poly performer, while Gordon Roberts may want the front or to keep the tempo constant.

Chase Me loves the turf but is having a first look at the 1800m and open class.

Aserious has the form and Moreira aboard plus he likes to sit handy then unleash so should be suited at his first look at the big hitters.

The 1800m could be a concern however as up in class and trip is always a double whammy for gallopers going through the grades.

This leaves us with the clear topweight Keep Away, which even under 58kg after a claim is a threat as at his best would teach most of these a lesson.

He is rising 600m second up here but has won in such a state before and I did not mind his fresh up effort behind Excavator in the Canada Cup.

Keep Away has won at 1800m before and even more interesting is he performs best when settled close and even better when taken to the lead, so another surprise pace option here.

Silveron Wings should strum a winning song for Santana and bettors are advised to sing along whilst backing the Dr Yeoh trained consistent closer.

Enjoy the music that is always heard for some reason when you collect your winnings!
