Handy mare Cincinnati Sioux looks hard to hold out fresh in the final race at Wyong today – the Coregas Handicap (race 8).
The Benchmark 60 over 1100m looks an ideal starting point to the campaign of the five year old, who hasn't raced since a last start city placing last spring.
Prepared at Gosford by Albert Stapleford, Cincinnati Sioux has been nearly 12 months since a win but her form is good for this grade.
Last campaign she resumed in the Provincial Cup at Newcastle and after showing good speed weakened out of it to finish ninth.
She then headed to town over 1250m for a Benchmark 70 at Canterbury and sat midfield in the run before working home soundly to finish fourth behind Oakfield Comet.
Up to 1300m on the Kensington track at Randwick she had a big weight and wide gate and after sitting off the speed but three deep she still worked to the line strongly, finishing a head second behind Triple Six.
Next start was over 1300m in a non metropolitan winners race at Warwick Farm and she struck a heavy track.
Settling last and turning there, she made a little ground but failed to threaten in the conditions when sixth behind Rolling Pin.
At her last run, another Benchmark 70 over 1250m at Canterbury, the mare sat midfield and hit the line hard but just couldn't bridge the gap on Ballet Point, missing out by a head.
She went for a spell and resumes here in what looks an ideal starting point.
This is the easiest grade she has contested for some time and the big weight is offset with the claim.
The mare has drawn well, has a good record fresh and should be hard to hold out with even luck in the straight.
The Gary Portelli trained Heels is also resuming and looks the biggest danger.
The filly made her debut with a fast finishing Nowra maiden win, running away by two lengths on the line.
She then came to town over 1400m at Warwick Farm and finished fourth after racing close to the speed.
Again at 1400m but at Randwick, she took up the running and was there until well into the straight before finishing third, beaten only a length behind Nocturnelle.
Last start, when favourite over 1400m in a Benchmark 68 at Warwick Farm, she lost the rider at the start so went for a spell.
The filly is fitter for two trials, winning one of them, and will be ridden by leading rider Jim Cassidy.
She won her only fresh up run with ease and is expected to measure up to this grade.
Perfect Rouge is a lightly raced galloper resuming after a long break.
On debut he scored his maiden win over 1000m at Kembla Grange then had a tough run and was checked badly before dropping out and finishing seventh.
He has had a year off the scene but comes into this on the back of a good trial effort when just beaten.
He is definitely worth keeping safe today.
Tapakeg covered ground throughout last time at Gosford but form a good gate here is worth another chance.
He is much better than recent form suggests.
Eager Beaver is resuming and has won fresh up in the past.
His weight is offset by the claim and should give a big sight on the speed.
