New Local Showing Great Heart

3 minute read

Former Sydney galloper Great Heart can continue his good recent form in today's final race at Grafton - the BP Reliance Plantation Handicap (race 9).

The lightly raced gelding, now with local trainer Peter Sinclair, has bene racing well lately and looks hard to hold out over 1200m in this Benchmark 60.

Great Heart spent his first 16 starts with leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller, where he scored two wins.

They were over 1300m at Warwick Farm when leading throughout and again there in his next campaign when running on hard over the same journey.

The gelding was thereabouts in his first two runs this campaign at Gosford and Kemlba Grange before drawing a wide gate at Newcastle.

With his big weight he settled just off the pace but faded in the straight and finished 11th.

He had a let up following that run and changed stables before making his Grafton debut in a Class 3 over 1100m.

There he drew the outside gate in the big field and was ridden by by jockey Ben Looker before coming with a big run to finish fourth.

Up to 1200m here last time in a Class 3 again he also drew wide, this time the second outside gate.

Settling worse than midfield but improved deep around the bend and joined in strongly, running on for a length win.

He seems to be hitting the line well for his new stable and with a repeat of his last two runs looks hard to hold out here.

He has drawn for some cover this time off a better gate and Looker knows him a little better again.

With a good pace on her should be hard to stop again.

The topweight Far Dooley gave a sight here last time and will take catching despite a wide gate here.

The Lismore trained gelding resumed over 1000m at home and after racing on the speed just missed out in this grade.

He then drew wide at home over 1200m in a Benchmark 75 and after a crossing to take up the running he faded in the straight to finish eighth.

This is a much easier assignment but has drawn wide again.

He should still cross though and fitter for the two runs back should give a big sight.

Rollem is resuming but with a sound fresh up record should be hard to hold out.

The gelding is well placed here with the claim, has a good gate and should be finishing on strongly.

The well travelled Mik Yelrow is back in New South Wales and looks hard to beat on his recent ratings in Brisbane.

Prepared by Marcus Wilson at Inverell, the gelding placed a host of times on end before breaking through for a win three back at Doomben in Class 3 grade.

Settling just off the pace there, he lifted strongly in the soft ground and scored a narrow win.

Up to a Class 4 over 1020m at Doomben he settled in the same spot but lacked the turn of foot form the last run and could manage only fourth.

Last start, on the Gold Copast in a Benchmark 80, he settled second in the heavy ground and fought on well to finish fourth., beaten 3.8 lengths behind Triskele.

This is easier and with a good draw and a strong record at the trip he can feature at each way odds.
