Better Be Sure the bet of the day

3 minute read

A big session of trials at Randwick look likely to take the headlines on a quiet Monday, but down at Swan Hill the reappearance of the lightly raced Better Be Sure in the Betfair Mmws BM72 Sprint (1300m) makes for plenty of interest.

Trained in partnership by John and Chris Ledger at Wangaratta, Better Be Sure showed good promise last season, winning three on the trot at Seymour, Wangaratta, and Wodonga respectively, before taking that form to town.

He was well-supported and without luck when running right up to that winning form at Flemington back in December, finishing just a couple of lengths from the winner in a race that produced a handful of subsequent winners.

He was spelled following that, returning for just the one run in February, where he ran well below form and was tipped straight out again.

Today he kicks off in a good, competitive handicap but he is well down in grade on his latest efforts and appeals as being very well placed.

He proved his well-being with a nice effort in a recent trial and can prove too progressive for these.

The danger looks to be Jarrod Mclean’s Kiaola, who is fit and in-form having had half a dozen starts this campaign.

He has a good overall record having won five from fifteen, and importantly for today has a good record at this track, winning and running second in a pair of runs here.

On The Cards has been mixing form but his win two back on heavy ground at Ballarat rates well for this and if turning up in that form he is likely to be right around the mark here.

What A Beauty has probably been a bit disappointing with just the two wins to her name despite showing good promise in her younger years but she still makes some appeal back in this grade and has been ticking over nicely enough in three runs this campaign.

Last start she worked home into third behind Produced and Imashadow, both who re-oppose today and while best days appear to be behind all three they are going well enough to be in the mix in a race like this.
