A handy field of gallopers will line up in the Summer Bright Cameron Handicap (1500m) at Newcastle today, with Toydini looming as the one to beat.
The Guy Walter-trained runner was gelded prior to last preparation and instantly showed improvement, taking out the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes and Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes in fine fashion.
Toydini resumed in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes with a handy fifth behind Veyron, getting to the line in good order over the 1400m and should appreciate the slight step up in trip today.
The Warwick Stakes has proved to be a strong form race so far this spring and in a race like this should prove very hard to beat on his way to the Epsom Handicap.
The in from Blake Shinn goes back on board, having ridden the horse nine times for three wins and three placings.
Toydini who is required to carry 58kg today rates well on weight adjusted Timeform ratings but will need a bit of luck from the wide draw, coming into 13 after the scratchings.
Expecting the son of Bernadini to go forward from the draw, having not been far away during a very fast tempo in the Warwick Stakes last start and there does not appear to be as much speed in this.
High Esteem makes the trip up from Melbourne for Peter Moody where he was only a head off Lidari 18 days ago who went on to run well in the Dato Tan Chin Nam on Saturday.
That form reads well for this and he looks the main danger third up now and ready to fire.
Spurtonic from the Gai Waterhouse yard also stays under strong notice having won all three races this campaign.
Has taken every step this campaign, leading all the way most recently over 2000m at Randwick but drops back some 500m today.
The four-year-old gelding no doubt looks a promising type and will have the blinkers go back on today. Should go forward and will be in this for a long way.
Queensland based Tokamak from the Barry Lockwood stable was beaten half a length by Mishani Warrior at Eagle Farm 11 days back, running on very strongly over 1300m. Better suited up to this trip and brings a different formline.
Not sure he can get past the top couple of chances but will no doubt be in the mix and has each way claims in this.
Outside of these That’s A Good Idea also rates a mention having won Held on gamely to win at Randwick 11 days ago, his second straight. Well up in grade for this but hard to knock winning form and can run a bold race in this.
