Only Once can build on an impressive debut win at Goulburn this afternoon.
The son of Northern Meteor finished 1.5L clear at Canberra on debut 32 days ago running to a weight-adjusted figure of 70 and that looks good enough for him to go back-to-back here.
He’s since transferred to the Kurt Goldman yard and looks well poised to win for his new trainer.
Timeform takes a look at the chances of each runner.
1. Super Asset - Showed a return to form when second at Cowra last start. Mixed form so far this campaign obviously some concern however has claims here on best form.
2. Only Once - Having first start for new stable after a clear cut debut win at Canberra last start. Rates on top amongst this field after that display and will have taken valuable race experience from the run.
3. Warcrusher - Resumes. Ran in tougher company for the most part last campaign and will find this a much easier task. Gelded and was runner up in a recent trial. Top chance.
4. Jesta Rollingstone - Resuming. Won two of three starts last campaign, albeit at the picnics. Others preferred at this point.
5. Millerman - Resuming. Struggled in two starts after breaking maiden status at Goulburn last campaign. Prefer to see at this stage.
6. Moomoomashoo - Showed sharp improvement second up at Canberra last start when attempting to lead throughout only to be collared in the last 75m. A repeat of that effort should see her right in the finish.
7. Turn Seventeen - Was caught wide throughout last start when fourth on resuming at Nowra. Will strip fitter for the run and is drawn to receive all of the favours here. Minor claims.
8. Sweetbron - Form since breaking maiden status at Moruya hasn't been great. Can't have.
9. Boralyn - Stable debut yielded a third at Canberra last start. Will strip fitter for the outing but doesn't win out of turn. Tempering expectations despite latest showing.
10. American Tale - Resuming off a generous spell for a new stable. Was struggling last campaign and isn't a noted first up performer. Dismiss.
