Nunes To Continue Winning Run With Taffetas

3 minute read

An eye catching performance behind These Streets leaves consistent mare Taffetas well placed to return to the winner's stall at Singapore this evening.

Set to contest the seventh event, the daughter of Elusive Quality has returned in great order this time in, with her last start netting a new career peak.

Unsuited by the moderate tempo, Taffetas hit the line gamely down the outside, to finish second within a length of These Streets.

In just her second attempt beyond 1200m, Taffetas' performance held plenty of merit, though she does appear better suited dropping back to 1200m.

Leading rider Manoel Nunes links aboard and is unbeaten in two prior attempts aboard the five-year-old.

Nunes currently sits well clear in the Singapore Jockey's Premiership, with over 100 victories this season.

Overall Nunes is striking at just shy of 20 per cent and is currently striking at 26% with the Bruce Marsh stable.

Clearly the stand-out event of the night, Taffetas appears well placed using Timeform weight adjusted ratings.

There is not a lot between the leading hopes, however her last start performance sees her hold a marginal advantage.

The Alvin Tan trained Happy Money, the Patrick Shaw trained Super Kenny and the Sonny Yeoh trained Astrostar appear to control the tempo, in a race which doesn't appear to have a lot of speed engaged.

From the middle draw Nunes should look to roll forward aboard Taffetas, as her best form has been achieved when ridden in this manner.

Although unable to reel in These Streets last start, Taffetas closing sectionals were very strong and she appears to get the gun run in fourth.

Taffetas has continued to make impressive ratings spikes this preparation and if able to follow a similar progression, she appears very hard to beat.

Last start winner Happy Money shapes as the main danger following his solid performance at this track last start.

Successful in recording a new career peak, the son of Econsul also brought up his fifth victory from just 11 starts.

Happy Money is unbeaten at his only prior attempt at this trip and has placed in nine of eleven attempts on the polytrack.

In-form jockey Danny Beasley sticks aboard and has placed in seven of eight attempts aboard the four-year-old.

Beasley is currently striking at 17 per cent for the Tan stable and appears to get the race run to suit from the inside draw.

On Timeform weight adjusted ratings, Happy Money does have a bit to find on Taffetas, however he is heading in the right direction and looms as a major threat.

Astrostar was a shade disappointing last start, however he is worth another chance given the strong form he displayed prior.

Unsuited by the moderate tempo, Astrostar worked home solidly and should be aided by the step up to 1200m.

He has placed in nine of 10 attempts on the polytrack and has placed in six of nine attempts over this distance range.

From the wide draw Astrostar should look to roll forward and settle on the speed.

On career best form he is clearly capable and is expected to be right around the mark.

Of the rest the David Kok trained Bourbon Goldman appears the next in line, following his solid performance behind Magneto last start.

Though clearly no match for the Patrick Shaw trained galloper, Bourbon Goldman was not disgraced when working home well to finish third.

Not seen in seven weeks, the son of Gallant Guru was given a solid hit-out at the trials, when finishing second behind the Desmond Koh trained Reach For The Sun.

The drop back to 1200m looks to aid his chances, in 11 attempts he has placed in nine.

David Flores sticks aboard and has placed in all three attempts.

From the good draw he is expected to settle just off the speed and should be right around the mark.

Good luck and happy punting.
