Battle Of Troy To Foil Favourite

3 minute read

Battle Of Troy profiles as an excellent each way play in the William Hill Plate at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Team Hawkes-trained gelding contests the sixth race at Sandown third run from a spell after a close second on resuming at Moonee Valley before a maiden win last start at Geelong.

Both runs have been encouraging with the son of Flying Spur settling outside the lead and remaining prominent throughout.

He will strip fitter once again third run from a spell in Wednesday’s William Hill Benchmark 64 Plate (1300m).

Battle Of Troy rates on top amongst this field on 50 day weight adjusted ratings and the gelding should in theory be able to build further on such figures early in both his campaign and career.

The field possesses plenty of winning form however his success last start success at Geelong is the pick of it on weight adjusted figures.

Form during a two start maiden campaign behind the likes of Bassett and Kinglike also reads particularly well.

These form lines from his maiden preparation have repeatedly held up and the probability of them doing so again in this appears high.

From barrier 7, Dwayne Dunn will have the gelding prominent and it will take a good horse to outgun the pair at the business end of proceedings.

The race loses some depth with the scratchings of Heza Cheka and Smart Dart.

Battle Of Troy is of course a main beneficiary however another is the Darren Weir-trained Camdus who currently holds favouritism as of Wednesday morning.

The son of Street Cry was impressive on debut, winning a 1200m Echuca maiden in strong fashion.

Camdus will have taken valuable race experience and fitness from the outing where he was a soft 2.3 length winner.

A rise to 1300m will be of benefit as will the 1.5kg claim of apprentice Harry Coffey.

The pair from an outside draw should work across and be in search of a prominent position early, perhaps on the back of our top elect Battle Of Troy.

Ten Goals showed plenty of promise through a five start maiden campaign.

The gelding was readied for this with a 900m Echuca trial last month and should enjoy all of the favours in transit here from barrier 1.

Loveheart Lass also resumes.

The mare produced some big finishes during her last campaign as a three-year-old and also showed plenty of versatility with strong efforts over the sprint journey up to 2000m.

1300m may be short of her optimum trip however she does have the capability to fire fresh.

The William Hill Plate is a strong Benchmark 64 contest however it is Battle Of Troy at an each way quote who possesses the most appeal.
