Filly To Fire Fresh At Ascot

3 minute read

A big first up showing is expected from promising filly Forever Diamonds in the seventh event at Ascot on Wednesday.

Forever Diamonds resumes on Wednesday in the Subscribe To Our Newsletter Handicap (1200m) at Ascot after a three start maiden campaign where she showed an abundance of promise.

The filly in particular turned heads when breaking maiden status at her second career start when bolting in over 1300m at Northam.

Her 3.5 length victory returned a Timeform rating of 81, a figure which has her profiling strongly in this line up.

Forever Diamonds was readied for this with a soft 950m Lark Hill barrier trial and placed in her prior first up showing when third on debut at Belmont.

The filly has the powerful jockey/trainer combination of William Pike and Grant Williams with the pair boasting an imposing winning strike rate so far this season of 39% from 132 rides.

Canny Time shapes as the main rival to Forever Diamonds having placed in each of her career outings to date, the latest at this course and distance a fortnight ago.

The daughter of Canny Lad showed good improvement on her Bunbury debut at career start two where she travelled wide throughout but still went about finding the line well.

Simon Miller’s filly has been beaten as favourite in each of her career outings however market expectations aside, the runs have been full of merit.

From an inside barrier, jockey Peter Knuckey should have her prominent throughout.

Cubitt And Candy resumes off a maiden campaign where he finished in the money at each of his four starts which included a debut victory at Pinjarra.

The son of Musket is proven first up and is drawn to receive all of the favours in transit from barrier 1.

On his best figures from last preparation, the gelding is capable of playing a key role in the finish.

Outside of the above mentioned trio, the Subscribe To Our Newsletter Handicap (1200m) features a number of promising types who possess value claims.

Culverin was a first up maiden winner at this course and distance a fortnight ago.

It was an impressive success, one which he produced after settling back and wide off a slow tempo.

He will strip fitter for the outing and once again, carries nothing on his back here after the 3kg claim of apprentice Randy Tan.

Massachusetts lined up in a Narrogin maiden on resuming for what was largely expected to be a first up maiden kill over 1100m.

The filly instead settled back and wide before closing well into second, beaten a half length.

There is more depth to this race however the daughter of Stratum will strip fitter for her first up run and has to be a chance of building upon the showing here.

McFriars faded badly over seven furlongs at this course last start which came after a highly encouraging debut victory over this distance at Bunbury.

A return to six furlongs will suit and the son of Blackfriars shapes as a sharp improver.
