Satya Success Likely At Ballarat

3 minute read

Satya can put a forgettable first up outing behind her as she drops in grade for the sixth event at Ballarat on Thursday.

Satya resumed off a strong spring campaign with a luckless fifth at Caulfield last start over 1200m to We’ve Got This on January 26.

The mare was badly held up and was beaten three lengths as favourite.

Team Hawkes a fortnight later have elected to drop her back in grade in a 1400m Benchmark 70 at Ballarat.

Second up and out to seven furlongs, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice appears well suited.

The lengthy Ballarat straight should mean the mare won’t encounter any hard luck stories and take plenty of holding out late.

Satya’s first up run was more than respectable considering the circumstances, running to a Timeform rating of 80.

She twice showed last campaign she is capable of better with a 1.4 length sixth at Caulfield over 1200m behind Politeness returning the four-year-old a new master Timeform rating of 100?

Her subsequent outing in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes over this distance was assessed at 93.

The $1million mare will undoubtedly have her fair share of followers in the sixth event at Ballarat on Thursday and rightly so considering what she has been known to produce.

Satya is clearly the most progressive sort in the field however she certainly isn’t without opposition.

Better Land resumed well at this course over 1200m a fortnight ago when placing to Forgive and Forget.

The well bred entire ran to a Timeform rating of 81.

Like Satya, Better Land has shown he is capable of substantially more boasting a master Timeform rating of 108 achieved when a three-quarter length fourth in the 2014 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m).

Unfortunately, such a performance is somewhat of a distant memory for connections.

He still shapes as one of the major players in this affair however.

Manoeuvring ventures down the highway off a disappointing showing over the Randwick Mile.

A drop in both class and distance at this stage will be of benefit to the Not A Single Doubt four-year-old.

His form prior to a last start flop at Randwick was excellent.

Ballinaclash made all last start over 1400m at Pakenham over this distance.

The gelding is as honest as they come and must be kept safe.

It’s Satya though who shapes as the pick of the bunch in Thursday’s Benchmark 70 Handicap (1400m) at Ballarat.
