Eschiele To Climb Through The Grades At Wyong

3 minute read

Eschiele can build upon a dominant first up maiden win when contesting a strong Benchmark 67 Handicap at Wyong on Wednesday.

The Medaglia D’Oro three-year-old resumed off a generous spell at this course and distance ten days ago where he took out a maiden by 3.5 lengths, eased down over the final stages.

The run returned the John O’Shea-trained runner a Timeform rating of 87, nine pounds shy of a master figure he ran to when second to a rival he faces here in Tap This when the clashed at this course and distance back in March 2015.

Eschiele’s clinical first up success which came off nearly a year away from racing is one which he no doubt will have taken benefit from heading into the Benchmark 67 Floratine Handicap (1200m) on Wednesday.

He appears open to substantial improvement off that run in what has the potential to be a breakout campaign for Eschiele.

During his latest spell, connections elected to geld the well bred three-year-old who is out of the multiple Group placed mare Upper Echelon.

Early signs this preparation suggest following the ultimate gear change, Eschiele has come back a more complete racehorse who can perhaps progress through the grades in the second half of his three-year-old season.

The Floratine Benchmark 67 Handicap (1200m) is made up of a small but strong field of three-year-olds.

Maraam is the third runner who contests the Floratine Benchmark 67 Handicap (1200m) off a dominant maiden victory.

The filly was a 3.3 length winner at Gosford a fortnight ago over this distance, settling outside the lead before leaving her rivals behind in the straight.

Her effort returned a Timeform rating of 86p, a new master figure for the daughter of Street Cry.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly certainly looks progressive and even holds a feature nomination for the lucrative Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) during the second day of The Championships.

Along with Eschiele and Maraam, Deploy is another coming off a last start maiden success.

The Gerald Ryan-trained colt broke maiden status at this course over 1000m ten days ago.

He was prominent throughout on that occasion and in the end dashed away to win by five lengths with minimal fuss.

The colt had the Blinkers on for the first time their and they certainly appeared to spark the son of Fastnet Rock that extra bit.

Deploy now rises to 1200m which is some concern considering his worst career outing to date came over that trip the start prior to breaking maiden status.

Earlier this campaign, the colt ran second behind subsequent Group 1 winner Le Romain and stakes winner Southern Legend.

Such form lines read well amongst this line up.

Meteora Miss shapes as a value player first up off a short but sweet summer campaign which returned a maiden victory at Canterbury over this distance.

Proven first up, she should be forward enough to fire fresh off a quiet 735m Randwick barrier trial on March 18.

The third event at Wyong on Wednesday is a strong one and while favourites Deploy and Maraam each boast strong winning claims, Eschiele appeals at the juicier odds.

Three-year-old filly Tap This was eased in the early stages and settled in second last place in the seven-horse field. She improved, under riding, rounding the home turn, got to third at the 100m and wound-up late to grab a narrow but good first-up win, looking suited to further. Top weight (61kg) Deploy raced outside the leader (Maraam), got to a narrow lead at the 100m and was only caught nearing the post for a good second. The favourite Maraam led the field until the 100m and held on quite well for third.
